I just got a Gmail account from the nice people in this here cool forum (thx Todd) and it got me thinking... - Now the rambling just starts 'cause I'm on the way out to drink with a bunch of crazy Icelanders. The fact that google obviously wants everybody on the planet to get ads from google-adwords while checking mail with gmail... what consequenses will that have? Are they gonna read all personal mails for keyword analysis in order to serve better ads? and if they do this, will newsletter-emails not get a bigger - maybe unexpected - influence on what ads are shoving? If the above has a point to it, then newsletter-emails will maybe change in order to crave more correspondance back-and-forth (as gmail brings all connected correspondance together as I understand it). hrmm... this WAS rambling. hopefully someone wil defuse all thoughts fast or -even better - just share som refinement on the subject. Maybe there is other threads on this, but I forgot to check (is called lazy but there you have it ) miko67 (not responding for some hours as obligatory drinking is now sceduled - good fortune I have inlaws to take care of kids hehe)
yes their algo reads your email and scans for keywords, thus displaying relative content ads. Your ramblings amuse me and made me think that Google should allow you to associate your AdSense account number with a Gmail account. Then all emails you send to another Gmail account will have ads displayed for the keywords in your email, then if the person you emailed clicks on an ad you get a percentage of it. Sounds good right? Well as I'm typing the above I can imagine the many ways to abuse that, but you never know.
We never tried, because we have our own email service that people can signup at http://mail.bhanvad.com or http://mail.a1directorysearch.com
