A lot of kids in the 1970s and 1980s also had fears over the world blowing up from nuclear war. That didn't make the danger any less than it was. Sometimes fear is a good thing for children to have and for adults too so they can question if they are doing the right thing.

When I was in elementary school, our teachers tried to terrify us by telling us that manmade pollution was going to cause global cooling. They also taught us that the world oil supply would run out in the 1980's.

Luckily, I never took my school teachers that seriously.

I just remember the pictures of wolly mammoths they used to illustrate how pollution was going to cause the next ice age.

Man, I wish I still had those! I could sell 'em on eBay for a fortune!

Scaremongering is obviously a good thing for future generations - it will hopefully engrain a sense that something must be done

Except, as it was all lies, all it did was further reinforce my disdain for authority.

Don't you remember the story of Chicken Little?

Also, don't believe that silly stuff about needing air to breathe underwater, fire can hurt you or that you shouldn't rub salt in your eye. I have it on good authority that your teachers were pulling your leg about those things too.

Do you recall learning any of those things in school? Those are things that children learn at home.

But, I'll try to respond to the point which it appears you were attempting to make.

Schools should stick to Reading, wRriting, and aRithmetic. School teachers are civil servants and they should not be allowed to push their political views onto their students.

Liberal moonbat teachers get around rules prohibiting this by thinly disguising their beliefs as "science." This is disgraceful.

As a result of the actions of these people, our K-12 education system is a failure.

As far as I know global warming isn't a political view, it's a debated topic within scientific circles. The subject can be used for political agendas but so can everything else.

Since you said that schools should stick to just teaching reading, writing and arithmetic, do you not believe that there is a place for science within the classroom? And if you do, up to what point should science stop being taught? How do teachers decide what scientific subject meets enough controversy that it should be removed from the curriculum?

If you really believe that, you are lost already.

Blaahahahahaha... OK, that was funny. You must not be familiar with the terminology. That's a common bit of American cultural literacy. The three R's include science. I can see how my statement could be read the way you read it though, by someone not familiar with American history. Where are you from?

Real science should be taught in school. That's real science, not pseudo-science invented by a bunch of politicos for purely political purposes.

EXACTLY! I remember having, "Get under your desk!" drills, and the first Saturday of every month, the Fire Houses would test the Emergency response sirens on top of the stations.
AND, does anyone remember the Emergency Broadcast System, on T.V.?

"This is a test, for the next 60 seconds the broadcasters in your area will be conducting a test of the Emergency Broadcast System...If this was an actual Emergency, it would be followed with instructs on Evacuation."

    Anybody remember that shiznit?
    THAT was scary!

Climatology is a real science. Go look it up yourself. You can get a degree in it.

If you really think the science called global warming is all political, you've been seduced by those that use the science for and against their political or personal agendas or you have your own agenda that you are following.

The majority of all scientists believe that global warming is happening; what there is disagreement with is what is the cause of it. What you seem to be doing is lumping the definition of global warming in with the debate over what causes global warming. The science proving that there is global warming is overwhelming and it's real science, not pseudo-science.

Global Warming is to Climatology as Astrology is to Astronomy.

I don't want my kids being taught Astrology in school, and I don't want them being taught the liberal voodoo pseudo science of global warming either.

I recall the woolly mamoth images and also remember that they said we'd be wearing gas masks on our way to high school. Global cooling, acid rain, hole in the ozone, Gore-Al Warming, what do you want to scare us with next.

Hey I just noticed that over the last couple of months the days are getting longer so eventually we will have no nights and we'll all get really tired. Most scientist agree that global snoring is the next big threat.
