According to the Google keyword tool, one of the keywords that I rank #1 for has a Global Monthly Search of 10,000 exact searches which breaks down to 333 searches a day. I looked in Google Analytics and on a monthly basis, I only get 100 hits a month. Why such a discrepancy? I've also looked on the regional engines such as google.in to confirm I'm number one on them as well.
Probably the searchers clicked on sites which are on 2nd or 3rd positions.. Just an assumption though.
Firstly and most importantly, the "Global Monthly Search Volume" is an estimate. It's not an accurate number so the only thing it will give you is a general idea on how much a keyword is being searched. Secondly, you may want to consider taking a serious look at your site's title and description - and how well they fit with the keywords you rank for. It's indeed likely that people find the 2nd and 3rd position pages to be more relevant and click there instead. Thirdly, I suggest you to play around with Hubpages, articles and (most importantly) press releases a little. Given that your keyword isn't extremely competitive, it may be easily possible for you to rank your own articles/releases/hubs on 2nd and 3rd place of your keyword, effectively giving you the whole top 3. Good luck!
Do you actually expect everybody to click on your link even though you're number one? As I remeber number 1 gets about 30% - 40% of all clicks and you're doing just that.
I think you might want to use some more attractive ad words in your title tags and meta description tags. Have a nice day,
Probably people have clicked on some other sites. You can't expect that they will always click on your site, maybe they have sites that they like and have visited earlier, before you came to first place... But still, you have good number of clicks...
are you looking at the broad match or exact match? cause exact match usually is lot lower than broad match. another thing to remember is that the search result you see on the keyword tool is for google AND its search partners, not just on google
This is a bit strange..i will suggest.. Check stats from awstats if your server has it. Do some optimization of meta decription and title At #1..you should expect around 40% of clicks of searches
@ankit_frenz, thanks, that's kind of what I thought, that I should get at least 30-40% of the clicks or about 100 clicks/day. 3000/month. My title I believe is in line with the other sites listed from position 2 onwards. I'll try playing with the title again but I'm wondering if perhaps the keyword tool is off?
As great as keyword estimation tools can be I have personally found keywords that show up as getting little to no search volume (according to the tool) but in reality they have yielded a couple hundred each totaling over a couple thousand per day....getting 1/3 of the total estimated traffic per day is a great accomplishment and bryanon gave some good tips if you want to increase it.
No, that is not what the figure represents. The numbers Google shows are the number of times that YOUR AD would show. There is a huge difference! (see my sig for more info on this) Also, keep in mind that those numbers are inflated by webmasters checking the SERPs, probably half are just webmasters. Bompa
