I'm calling these strange reactionary retreats into a delusional alternate reality the RPS short for Ron Paul Syndrome.
While reading The Terrorist Within, one of the things that struck me as odd was how much Ron Paul and Osama bin Laden have in common. They are both old men who are selling a return to a mystical kingdom which never really existed. Both have attracted hordes of impressionable young men who are desperate for an identity and someone to accept them. Neither claim to be a god themselves, or even a prophet, yet both have started movements which are effectively cults. Both are authors, but neither are known primarily as authors. Both are known primarily as organizers, but both rely on professional staffs to recruit and organize their large groups of true believers. I'm sure there's a formula here and both men are, consciously or subconsciously, simply following the formula. Anybody want to start a cult? Looking at these two guys, it doesn't appear to be that difficult.
Man... it's crazy what people get obsessed with around here. What ever happened to the good old standby's like money and women? I would naturally think that the young men on this forum would be obsessing over someone like Marisa Miller -- not an old freak like Ron Paul. Mia is right. RPS here is an epidemic. Hell, it is the fundamental principle behind isolationism that RPS stands for. It's a belief "Political rulers should avoid entangling alliances with other nations and avoid all wars not related to direct territorial self-defense." (wiki) That said, lock yourself in a closet and masturbate while the rest of the world fends for itself and everything will be alright. I must say, I can tolerate the isolationist RPS'ers much more than the anti-everything crowd, but does ignoring a problem really make it go away? The RPS kids seem to be technological luddites. If their moonbat policies were implemented, the U.S. would soon find itself living on a planet with dozens of dictatorships ruled by theocratic madmen -- each of which possessed a nuclear arsenal capable of destroying half the globe. Worse, within a century biological technology will proceed to the point where any reasonable funded rogue government will be able to kill all of humanity with a single vial of goo. We are at a pivotal point in history where we either make the globe safe for all mankind or we accept that we -- as a species -- have only a few hundred more years to exist.
I've not refused anything. I'm a 37 year old civilian. If I was active duty in the service and was called, I would certainly defend freedom. I do however defend freedom in my own way like so many others who are, as civilians, obligated to continue to help protect the freedoms kids such as yourself so often take for granted. Don't worry Julian, I'm sure the US will be around to protect you for a few more years anyway, despite your unending hope for doom and gloom.
What do you think the Islamists would do to our friend the Canadian pimp if they managed to get Sharia law implemented in Canada? Very interesting. Still not my thing, but thanks for the update. I have a friend who sold his third company and then joined the Navy Reserves. He's still in shape for that sort of thing. I was pretty impressed. We all do our parts, but there is a certain romanticism involved in being more directly involved. The analogy which the U.S. Army uses is that of an arrow. An arrow needs a head, a shaft, and stabilizers to fly. All parts are important to the mission. The arrow that is the U.S. armed forces is made up of the military, the defense establishment, defense contractors, and all American citizens. But... there is always something special about the guy who decides to be up front. True warriors are a breed apart. They represent, in many ways, the best and the brightest that our civilization has produced.
