Just saw an enhancement to the old adage about a glass that is half full of water: The optimist sees the glass as half full The pessimist sees the glass as half empty The engineer sees the glass as poorly designed The sales executive sees the glass as an opportunity to discuss the benefits of ice
I always see the glass half empty. My wife is the opposite. I guess we make a good team. I don't care about the benefits of ice. I like my water cold, but not icy cold.
On Youtube there is a clip of Dean Martin. He takes a glass and has a drink. He then spits the liquid out and makes a face and asks, "What is this stuff?" Someone tells him that it's a glass of water. He then says, "So that's what it tastes like, I always wondered".
I saw this years ago a sales seminar when I was in retail sales. If you are in sales, you have to always look for the opportunity.
I have used the engineer part for many years, especially when speaking in front of technical types. But this is the first time that I heard the sales part.
