...So, guys, how hard is it to get into YPN? I'm going to give YPN a try, already signed up (a few minutes ago) but is it hard to get in? Plus, if I do get in, what are some things I should know, having come over from Adsense? The main differences, things to watch out for, etc. Much appreciate any heads up.
It took me about 4 weeks for the approval. It varies though. Worth the wait though from what has happened on my sites since using them. Kevin
Yahoo sends out approvals in batches, so depending on when you hit the cycle, in can take as little as a few days to over 4 weeks. Difference between Adsense: You must be located in the US and target the US market. Check your logs because you can get terminated for too much International traffic. The exact percentage in unknown, but I would guess somewhere between 20% to 50% (check with Yahoo to make sure). Ad relevance is a big problem with Yahoo in a lot of sectors. The clicks generally pay more, but they also don't pay on any non-US click so your CTR will likely be less. It works better on about 50% of my sites. Adsense just flat out pays more on a small percentage of the rest, but no relevant ads run on the others. You just need to see if it works with your site. You can't even guess by sector because Yahoo puts a lot of importance on page title. You can run YPN and adsense at the same time, on the same site, just NOT on the same page. Reporting is delayed by a day, so unlike adsense, you won't get stats until about 2 am PST.
Ad relevancy is the biggest problem with YPN, which results in lower CTR, but higher payout per click than Google. So, depending on the site and the page, you might actually get better revenue than with Google. Experimentation is the key to knowing how it's going to work for you.
In general, YPN is simpler and more profitable than AdSense. If you know how to use AdSense, you won't experience any problems with YPN. This is a fun and user friendly system. I switched from AdSense to YPN and I love it.
