Giving Minority Stake in your company to your Programmer

Has anyone given their programmer a minority stake in their company/website without them investing any money? A percentage as 15-25% of revenue in return for editing/coding the site?

If so , how much did you split?

I haven't had much success with this. Most will not work for this agreement, since if they built it themselves they could reap 100%.

Yes, but they don't have to do anything with the site and don't have to commit to just 1 site. If they program 15 sites, they are getting that 20% from each site.

I'm sure you could convince one to take on this sort of compensation scheme. I think you would have to up it to 35-45% though to get decent work.

not a bad idea if you are low on funds and want to keep them honest and not steal your ideas

Depends on the business model, in some cases that could be a lot for a website....

Most if not all would require some form of up-front payment.
