Giving credit card info on shopping sites?

Discussion in 'Payment Processing' started by olddocks, Apr 25, 2008.

i have been using my credit card to shop on many sites and i had absolutely no problem until i ordered an item from a shopping site. Every now and then they are asking for scanned copy of my credit card and statement.

i am getting too uncomfortable revealing my credit card info to these online sites and worried about misuse. It is also hurting my financial privacy.

is it safe to disclose such important credit card information?

I would never share that kind of information, I've never had any online shop asking me for scanned copies of my creditcard. Be very careful.

When I ordered from Provantage they asked me for a scanned copy of my credit card.

All I needed to do was to scan the top part which contains my name, address and part of the credit card number. I blanked off the rest and it works. They just want those details and the bank header.

If it's a large purchase especially for electronics I wouldn't be too upset over a scanned copy of the card. There is a lot of fraud online and these businesses are just trying to protect themselves. With that being said, I would never give a copy of a credit card statement, and I would only send a scan of the card and/or drivers license if I trusted the business that requested it.

yeah! i have no problem sending my ID proof (passport/drivers license) but not the credit card scan with details showing to them. even sites like ebay ask such information. eventually i would cancel my order.

There is one solution for this
u can send the scanned copy of the front and back part of your credit card but u must remove the last 3 digits of CVV2.
by knowing your credit card details with the CVV2 anyone can purchase from online services.
    so be very careful :)

You've obviously never sold online retail. It may be bogus as a consumer who is completely protected from unauthorized credit card purchases, but as a business there is absolutely nothing that protects you if you accept a stolen credit card. As a business you end up losing the merchandise, and then you lose the money when you get a chargeback. Basically you end up eating 2 times the amount that you accepted.

It's quite hard to sell tangible goods online due to the number of fraud and stolen credit card info out there. Sending them your i.d is ok but scanned copies of your credit card is a BIG no no. They could just ask for statements.

Yeah, this is some touchy stuff. Still though people use those self card imprinting machines at arts festivals. Just as crappy if you ask me :)

    hey buddy

you cant belive it .. but when i was dealing with 12dailypro days.. i saw a hacker selling ppls credit card info extracting from online shopping carts.. you cant belive he was selling per card 2$..

so always be sure u trust the site where you are putting your credit card info

my uncle was so pissed off with online credit card hackers that he had to run into bank and file a complaign about his big loss of $4000

becareful double check the sites you are spending

    or use virtual credit cards..
