yah why not.........do whatever you can to build up a new directory, it will eventually pay off over time.
should their be a limit on how many free links given away? I gave away 10 links last week. Would it be okay to give another 10 this week?
Well once the 30 days are over, their links will become regular so it will still be like long-term i guess.
I give sort of freebies but not in that way, to populate a directory, free featured for one month wouldn't be worth it. I give featured listings that will last a year, but they are thank you's for help that i receive on the forum, when someone helps me sort a problem etc. Always think before offering something, like would you regret offering permanent featured, or a permanent sitewide for $50 or something like that. Just examples.
Giving away free premium slots is an excellent way to promote your directory. This is standard procedure whenever I launch a new site. Here's my $0.02 worth of advice... - Never launch a directory with the expectation of instant riches - Aim to run your site for at least 12 - 18 months before making any decent money - Offer excellent value for money. While you site is establishing, offer genuine incentives. If your fees are annual, extend the advertising period for early adopters free-of-charge - Give away free slots as an incentive. E.g. Sign-up for a free listing and link to XYZ Directory by x date for the chance to win a free upgrade - Make sure you honour the free upgrade offer - Stay niche and make sure your directory has USPs.
