Giving a site 10k links over night...bad?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by rlynch, Mar 16, 2008.

i have a network of sites that total over 10k pages (over 5 domains)

i made a new site and linked to it on every page of the network?

will this be determined to be spam or something bad?

I'm not sure, this is a code good question. By spam I'm assuming you mean in search engines eyes? I did read a few months ago that google is penalizing sites that buy backlinks (low quality backlinks, that is) but I don't know if they are still doing it. Seems like a similar concept though.

IMO is not a good practice. Usually I don't like sitewide links. So many backlinks to a new site is a red flag to search engines -> your site could be penalized.

Yes you should remove them buddy its not good and its pointless - it will only hurt your site in the long run

It'll just confirm something Google already know - your running a link farm network and all your sites will drop PR and, possibly, a SERP penalty may be induced.

Yes Google devalues sitewide links now i think, for example Footer links and so on. I think if you spread them out a bit more you might gain more PR juice than having the sitewide links. However i'm not 100% sure that Google does do this so you might want to use it as a test, but also beware that you are leaking the PR juice that your network sites have to offer, threfore potential advertisers may be driven away.

He said 10,000 pages over 5 domains so i guess he's added a sitewide link on 5 different domains which contain average of 2k pages each.

Make a link only from homepages, or only from a few related pages. You can link to inner pages of new site too.
But don't make reciprocal links on new site.
One way links are much better than reciprocal links.

    I'd agree with ajsa here...

Start with one ways from the heavy hitting pages of your 5 sites and point them to your new site...let that get some age and you can add from there...

Numbers of links are not as important as quality. No need for reciprocals on your own sites. One ways are better.

    Best

Interesting, I have around 10/20 links from ppl that paid me to put their links on my site so i dont think that ill be penalized but ill be more careful from now on.

You can add a few links from inner pages that have Pr so it helps new site this way you do not lower main page pr.

PM me if you want a small script that will let you 'randomize' your sitewide links - this gives you different anchor text to different inner pages of your other site across your network, and makes it a little less obvious...

Of course, loads of quality in context links from sites that don't belong to you would be better, but if things were that easy we'd all be rich ;)

Hear & Listen no bad effect of doing this and no good effect
It wont hurt your new domain all these links and it will not give you more value as from one domain consider as one link, from diffrent subdomain can be taken as multi links.
If you record your sites in google webmaster tools so dont wast your time by giving links betwen your websites as google know already what you own and wont give value to these links.

I wouldnt do a site wide links on these 5 domains. Probably a homepage one way link from the 5 domains to your new site.

Another major point - definitely do not link these domains together if they are all registered by you, by the same registrar, and hosted on the same server.

You need to build the links slowly!

You should do it gradually, if possible.
