I'm thinking about a giveaway for my site to: Increase Traffic Acquire email addresses Increase Forum Sign Ups Overall increase in site activity Any suggestions on a good implementation? How long? Any legalities and where can I find samples online that I can use? Suggestions for promoting the giveaway? Press release? Any ideas or recommendations are greatly appreciated. I'm looking to run the contest in conjunction with the launch of my redesigned site. Thanks. Chris
I just started giving away free "ebooks" on my forum. You might give it a whirl. In addition to an online press release you could also submit your site to freebie directories. Hope that helps.
I'd like to giveaway a free Treo. That alone should increase traffic. I'm struggling with "what I'm asking people to do in order to enter". Sign up for eNews Register for forums Post on forums? (worried about people posting junk for sake of entering) Something unique or written that can be judged? The easier I make it, the more signups and contestants I'll get. However, I'd like to use the promotion to stir up activity on my forums AND increase sign ups. Ideally, it would be nice if the winner were chosen based upon some type of submission. The contest will celebrate the launch of my new site -- is this press release worthy? My wife would tell me "definitely not" -- but this is the web and I'll try any type of promotion that works. Thanks for your comments. -Chris
No, it's my hard earned cash. That's why I need this contest to be just right. I don't mind making it a bit difficult to enter -- I mean it is an unlocked Treo 650 which retails for $699. I don't think it's out of line to ask for something more than filling out a form. I'm thinking I could make them register for the forums and then have them sign up for the newsletter. When signing up for the newsletter, they would have to include their forum username. It's at this point that I have a brain freeze. Surely, that can't be it. I've seen competing sites use "choose our slogan". Funny thing is ...most of the slogans included my Domain Name. I don't want to duplicate what they've done. I'll probably run the contest around the new site launch -- although I'll be itching to get it started when that box arrives tomorrow from Palm. -Chris
I was thinking about doing a give away on one of my sites. I am not sure how you get more people to come, by simply having a giveaway. You still have to promote it, and on top, have the giveaway item ready to uh, giveaway. HAve you thought about how to put it out there so you actually get the increased traffic that you want?
Not sure. I'm working with a developer on a redesign of the site. Originally, I was planning on waiting for the launch (September timeframe). However, I just received the Treo today from Fedex and I'm itchin' to get the contest started. If I do it correctly, it could be a great contest -- for me and for some lucky dude (or dudette). -Chris
Whats the cost on one of those things? I was thinking about giving away a $10,000 landscaping makeover on my site, but to get enough extra visitors to pay that off would be a task
I don't wanna hijaak the thread, but its something I'd love to do. Would have to figure out how to promote it though. That's the thing. I cover the expenses (~$10k) I'd need to either get about $22k in sales that I would not normally get. Since I don't like sending emails, simply acquiring email addressres wouldn't work. I suppose if I hit up landscapers around the country to help promote it by linking to the contest page or something - that'd be a way...
The unlocked one's retail for $699. Most people buy them with contracts with signifcantly reducing the cost. So, a chance to win one, is a good contest. -Chris
Sure is. I've entered in those contests to get a free computer or something and they usually give away one for like $500 or something (a low end Dell). $700 prize is not insignificant. Do you know how you will promote it? Press release?
Yes, I was considering a press release -- especially coincides with the launch of the new site. In terms of promotion, I'll be actively promoting it on my site - through advertising on other sites -- I also expect a buzz to occur in the Treo community (at least I'm hoping), that will bring some folks. I'm still trying to figure out the particulars -- what I expect them to do in order to enter. My goal is to increase newsletter/forum signups. Additionally, I'd like to make the contest something that I judge rather than a raffle. A raffle is to random. I'd like to reward a visitor for a post or something. I've been looking at other contests for ideas. One thing I don't want is useless posts. I'm surprised that I'm struggling so much with this contest -- being a "marketing guy" and all. Easy - yet effectively meet my goals. -Chris
