Meta Tags aren't really that important anymore. Instead, focus on increasing your on-page keyword density to about 1%, and also make sure that your main keyword is in h1 tag (title). That's 10x more effective than Meta Tags. I don't think Google even ranks meta tags lol.
Similar to metatags, take a look at microformats. Google uses them in their search results. If you use the microformats correctly, your listing could stand out above the rest. This does not mean that your site will rank higher just for using the microformats.
While I don't know a lot about Meta tags, I have read from various sources that Google notices the title tag. So that's what you should be paying attention to. You can find some valuable information about them on SERoundtable.
In other words, you are saying that is better to focus on keywords on our websites, which is 1% avoiding it using too much to avoid keyword staffing.
Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, after the title tag. In the context of search engine optimization, when people refer to meta tags, they are usually referring to the meta description tag and the meta keywords tag. These are not seen by users. A meta tag contains meta data about the web page it is in. A meta tag will not affect the way the page looks, and in most cases won't even be seen by the person reading the web page. Main purpose is providing meta document data to user agents, such as search engines.Meta data can contain useful information about the page that programs and web spiders can use.The most common reason to use meta tags is to provide a description of the page for search engines.A good description can entice readers onto your web page.
