To build a TOP gaming computer you are looking at the range of $2000-$3000 CPU - Core i7-2600K (the best gaming CPU) CPU cooler - corsair H series liquid cooler Graphic Card - 2 x Radeon HD 6950 in CrossFire Memory - G Skill RipJawX DDR3 (8 GB minimum) Storage - SSD+SATA HDD (Kingston + WD) Optical - Blueray RW (pick your pick) PSU - Antec HCP 850 Chassis - Thermaltek or Coolermaster (pick your pick) Monitor - A good 26" or bigger full HD LED (pick your pick) Keyboard and Mouse - Razor (pick your pick)
I would put ~2500-3500 if you're using dual monitors. I agree with Webby on i7 and corsair H I prefer NVIDA gfx cards though.
Radeon 6950 in CrossFire out-performs nVidia 580 GTX by a large margin and gives an almost similar performance to 590 GTX. Go Figure.
