It is a shame that a young girl took her own life over something taking place on the Internet. What is worse is that this sort of thing has happened more than once. Some people, regardless of their age, take the Internet much to seriously. I've known people older than me who get worked up over online posts that I think are ridiculous. Many people are much more aggressive when they can hide behind their computer.

I hope that the instigators of this mess are held responsible for their actions and I REALLY hope that other parents in that community learn from this.

Not just a myspace, but ALL chat rooms where are brainless adult freaks.
I see them everywhere, in local chats (small or large), boy pretending to be a girl or vice versa, just to "test" or "play" with someone.
Or especially when in a chat room there are kids from 8 (EIGHT) year to old serious members 70 or more years old.
But there is always someone who try to do something nasty, for example this is the most common message "Any girl with skype and webcam?" "anybody want free credit for your phone? (with webcam)" and so on.
It's their bussiness, I don't care what are they doing, BUT there are kids reading it also, and I'm pretty sure that under 10-12 years kids have no clue what is really behind the scene, what that idiot want.

I just wanted to say taht Internet is dangerous for kids, cause there are not protected, its like in real world, they are too weak and uhm, not inteligent enought to see details. How can they know it is bad, or that he/she is bad guy/girl...

If I would have kids, I would be really scared to let them with PC+Internet alone :(

(I do have a 10 years old brother, so I can see a situation a bit closer, they can be fooler really easy)

Teenage girls especially can be quite emotionally fragile. It may seem silly to us to react so dramatically over something that seems so silly, but to a teenage girl , the relationships with her peers, even fake ones on the web, can define them and become all that matters.

Maybe I took too harsh a stand, yes you are right, those who knew of her condition and used such tactics deserve the long arms of the laws and the maximum punishment.

I get upset when people are rude to me online, and I'm an adult - I never used the interenet when I was younger but if I did there is no telling how many times I would have been affected by something that was said online.

This totally sucks and I have lots of sympathy for the girl who lost her life, her family and friends, you can't put stupid conditions on an unnecessary loss like that. I don't see myspace as really being a big factor in this unfortunate incident though, it's just another communications channel, same thing could have happened without it in so many ways. I hope that mom that just got charged enjoys some prison justice.

It's sad to hear someone commit suicide over something as trivial as this. I do hope stricter laws on cyber bullying will be implemented.

The problem is not with the social networking sites. It is caused by some irresponsible or mentally unstable members. In any society a small percentage of people will be unstable. 100s of death will fall in to that category only among the millions of users out there.

Thats an old story, it's very sad and i dont understand something. The girl who committed suicide is pretty and the girl who sent her that cruel message was fat and ugly. Why would she listen to her? Thats very bad when someone is swelling their anger on other people and they suffer.

Very true i guess... well i think something should be done... but thats just it thou - WHAT?

What makes this case standout in my eyes more than anyother was an adult, a mother herself was involved in this. At least if this woman is prosecuted under federal law and sentenaced it will send a BIG message to all those out there thinking about or currently involved in simular situations.

The cyber world can be a dangerous place.

This definitely is sad, but I'm sorry, we can all cry over this because it's a young girl, but she's not bright at all for taking away her own life because of a stupid thing like myspace.

It's ridiculous, I get she's upset, but come on, it's only words, it's not as if she were kidnapped or someone forced her to do something.

Teens today are very hyper sensitive and tend to behave very irratically to even minor problems....

Parents must play a very pro-active role in guiding them rather just focussing on making money and spending scarce time with their kids.......parents are equally to be blamed for this mess in teen mentality...

I to remember this case and believe that as was stated earlier that the girl was on anti depressants. In this case that may have had a good bit to do with it to. Teens hormones are so raging and ever changing that the suicide rate for teenagers on anti depressants is downright appalling.

Right on a bottle of anti depressants it says suicidal thoughts are a side effect. If that happens in an adult then as a teen you know it will happen. The hormones are screwy since they are developing and the mindset is always changing as their minds are developing also.

The whole situation is sad and the fact a mother of a daughter around the same age would join in on this all I can say is I hope they bury her under the jail. Some would take the point of view but if the mother goes to jail then her daughter is without a mother. She is obviously no kind of mother and certainly no role model so I think the duaghter would be better off myself.
