I need ideas on how to promote this deals website.
I have tried social networking sites without much success. Not sure if I did it right.
How would you promote such a site?

social bookmarking works for video photo and other entertainment websites...at least thats my experience. Try SEO optimization, and get traffic from G.

Have you tried any of the free traffic exchanges? I have had some success with them.

 

If you are willing to invest $$ into marketing, try Google adwords marketing. If not, SEO is an important one (it would be ideal to have both)

What exactly do you mean by free traffic exchange?

 

With the holidays (and the shopping thereof) upon us, I'd say your best bet is to market with that in mind for now. Offer something free to those who refer their friends and make sure you integrate with Facebook and Myspace and Digg and StumbleUpon so that people can easily pass on these deals.

Also, make it look like the user has to hurry. I've never bought from w00t, but I've done more marketing for them than any of their advertising efforts because they made it seem like a deal and I had to move quickly to pass it on.

What I need more at this time is get more people to visit the site. Buying stuff will come as traffic grows.

 

The site looks nice... I like how you take the digg concept and apply it to products. Probably just a matter of time, but don't we all hate to wait? Ugh.

submitting you site to web directories will not increase your traffic dramatically but it will help you to gain some PR and make your site visible in the SERP.
