*cough* pages do NOT get PR if they are not indexed. hence sitemap = irrelevant since mine are, possess nice PR, and don't have a sitemap *cough* duh. neeeext... ok, back on topic.
Well duh... maybe try reading where this stemmed from and how you do NOT need them! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=3189834&postcount=15 duh.. duh point being: they are irrelevant.
sigh, whatever anon.... The Pheonix... my advice, submit a sitemap, anon's is don't bother... make your own mind up on that.
Don't do that. those were the old days. Just post a link to a site that is crawled by bots, thats it. Prove it time and time again...usually the next night, heck it beats FedEx.
Exactly SilkySmooth, I dont give a shit about PR, I asked the question without expecting people to get into an 'I can piss higher than you contest'. @Anon; I know that, everyone knows that, I asked the question that SilkySmooth pointed out. @britishguy; Thanks for the input and I'm sure you mean well, but I have a plan, its one that involves not telling the hyenas what it is. Your not serious? Smart is COMPETING with your niche and that means NEVER tell them what THEY want to know, you only tell them what YOU WANT them to know, Its like giving the ball to the opposing team to give them a chance to score against you. So back to my question, are you guys saying that; you either post on the forums your url? you submit a sitemap to google and yahoo, does msn have a sitemap? you listen to anon who says it doesn't matter as google will pick you up anyway? @ Anon; just to bring this back to where it belongs, how long would it take Google and the other majors to index me if I never took ANY of the courses of action you suggest? In other words if I just register my domain, put my directory on it and don't advertise it. Answers without bitching please.
Fair enough and it wasn't my intention, I was just trying to answer your question. In my experience MSN is the first to pickup, index my sites and include them in the results. Yahoo usually follows closely behind. The Googlebot always hits my sites at roughly the same time as MSN/Yahoo but they seem to take longer to get anything into their index. In my experience, submitting a sitemap to Google does speed up this process and increases bot activity on the sites. Note that I am not just talking directory sites, I have tried this out on several sites from content based to online stores. As far as I am aware MSN doesn't have a sitemap service. Then obviously there is the link building, if you try and target sites within your niche where possible without revealing your game plan or highlighting yourself to your competition. Submitting to general directories rather than niche for example.
Put your directory link in your DP signature.. Once I got my site indexed in just 1 day after putting it in my signature sitemap - Google will crawl it if you submit or not.
I know you was and I appreciate it, I just saw others coming in and ignoring the question I was asking albeit without meaning to. Thanks for your input, I did take it on board. One question though, if MSN doesn't have a sitemap service is there less chance of getting indexed by them as quick as the competition?
You are entitled to your so incorrect point of view, you think Alive competes with Aviva or vice a versa, no way never, they are too busy being unique, professional and oh so very savvy and smart carving out their market share I can assure smart operators never compete, they are too smart to get into competitive negativity, they are too busy working on being successful and carving out their future success
Well according to Sitemaps, Microsoft is on board so they may very well crawl them, I just am not aware of a submission service like there is for Yahoo and Google. And as I say, MSN has always been the quickest to index my sites whether they are following links or picking up the sitemap I cannot say as I have never tested one over the other. Another idea for you would be to link from one of your own established web sites where your competition is less likely to look.
The response was in corroboration with what others already noted in submitting your site respectively, and getting yourself some links. Good sites will normally get you indexed between 24-72 hours, afterwhich G will then do its thing and spider. You don't need a sitemap to get everything fully spidered these days. G is smart enough to do that in itself as it's noting but a bottomless link guzzler. bitching was never the intention, silky may have just OD'd on cialis or something.
Based on his secondary response and not primary and initial post. But anywho... asking about getting indexed without getting backlink(s/ed) is like umm... well, even we would agree on the obvious here. I can say that I don't know why and/or how, but I have had several sites get indexed without me wanting them too. It's hit and miss for x factor (us never knowing the x factor value, but eventually it gets hit). I now use the disallow just in case I am not ready.
You can get backlinks from some of the better sites here without announcing your directory to your competitors. That way you can get indexed, and the only way anyone would know of your directory is if they found your links. Of course the only problem is your clients won't know about you either.
LMAO; I tried Cialis eyedrops once, could'nt get a stiffy but they made me look hard! Looks like you all got your opinions on how to and how not to, probably be down to me to figure out which one's to take.
You can try adding AdSense code to your pages; it'll bring around mediabot. We know about the rumors - maybe you can confirm them for us. Another rumor is the toolbar; not real sure about this one. The one that's worked best for myself is a few links from sites with frequent bot activity. Best of luck with the project.
