As of late, my blog has been picking up in terms of visitors and page views per visitor, but I am not seeing as many comments as I would like.

    Any suggestions?

I would really appreciate any advice you may offer.

A lot of it depends on how you are writing your blog posts. Some of them are written in a way that seems to discourage comments. Make sure you end with some inviting words to encourage people to comment on your post.

rightly said by Mindraven, you can end up your post asking some suggestion so the commentator gets encourage to comment, or you can ask any relevant question

I guess it also depends on your niche, and where your traffics are coming from. Example, my blog has mostly traffics from search engines, so my visitors are hardly leaving comments, they most contacting me than commenting, because of my niche which is tutorial.

But if your traffics are mostly from commenting from other blogs, i am sure you can also get more commenters.

    Just my opinion :)

For a start, write a comment anonymously after every post yourself and reply to it when logged in to your admin panel. This often sparks a discussion and helps you gain comments from other users.

Getting people to comment is not always easy. Visitors generally read posts, but can't be bothered to actually reply/comment. I got a couple of friends to start a discussion thread on one of my blog posts and it actually helped, because I did get quite a few more comments after that. This lead to the same people visiting my blog and leaving comments on newly added posts. Keep in mind that your blog posts must be interesting enough to read though!!!

I suggest you write some controversial articles having your own opinion. That should generate some interest. Also as a last resort, convert your blog to dofollow.

I agree with shashank261. Yes, controversy does generate interest and that's a good way of getting comments.

But then, what will you be doing with the comments? Surely you won't want people to come, comment, and go away.

You could use a script that sends an email when someone replies, so they'll come back to discuss again..
