I am trying to get traffic to my blog, and to do that, I am throwing a contest. The problem is, it is not like I can just go comment on other blogs and say "Hey, I'm throwing a contest check out my blog for more details."

What are some things I can do to bring it in?

    Here is the contest: http://www.blogosis.com/2008/01/10/the-monthly-blogosis-contest-%e2%80%93-win-free-money-january-2008/

I think if I can get traffic and subscribers to this contest, a lot of subscribers will keep with me to be entered in next months contest. What do you think?

I don't know. Do you really want visitors who are only on your site to get money? Why are you paying money out instead of bringing it in?

Sure it's good to give, but only if your making enough for the site to pay for itself first.

It's true, money does bring in traffic, but not quality traffic.

If you sell out at an early stage your blog's lifespan will be short. Concentrate on great content and they will come in time. It's a slower starting process, but your blog will be a lot stronger and healthier for it. Your traffic will be quality gaining you loads of great and powerful backlinks.

Otherwise, once you stop giving money your visitors will go elsewhere. So you will have forked out loads of cash for little to no return. You may aswel give money out to random people on the street.

If you read the contest rules, it said I would be giving away 10% of all the money I make from my affiliates... So yes I will be making enough money to pay for the contests. And it is a monthly contest. All you have to do is to subscribe by email, and there are chances to win if you blog about it, getting me even more traffic and subscribers.

    Good thinking :)

I'm not sure how many will jump onboard with such a small percentage, but good luck.

    Try ContestBlogger: http://www.contestblogger.com/

There are a bunch more blogs that specifically talk about other blog's contests. I forget where I saw the list.
