Getting Traffic From Other Countries?

I live in the U.S., if I wanted to create a site to get traffic from the U.S. and the U.K. How do I do this? Would I have to make a .uk site? Is this possible with me living in the U.S.? How exactly does this work? I know on my current site I get an occasional visit from another country but 99% from the U.S.
Any added advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure, you would have to live in the UK to obtain an .uk domain just as other countries cannot sign up for an .us alone themselves.

If you have an family member or an very very very trustworthy friend in the UK you could have them sign up for it.

Not sure why you would want to limit your traffic to just the US and UK, unless your under some affiliate agreement where they only payout to those countries. If that's the case perhaps you could look into geo targeting your ads instead, and find other advertisers who payout to whoever.

I just used the UK as an example, I guess in general I would like to get visitors from English speaking countries? What is the best way of getting traffic outside of the U.S.

Having an site and or content that relates to abroad countries not just the US in general, an good translation service wouldn't hurt as well. :D

EDIT: Does this have anything to do with your gambling related sites?

No I am just speaking in general, but to use gambling sites as an example why would I not be getting the same amount of traffic from the rest of the world as I am the U.S., I am sure there are more people in other countries combined searching for gambling information but why does my traffic come 99% U.S.

Because only less than 1 percent of the rest of the worlds population are searching for your terms?

Honestly I could not say with 100% with certainly w/o knowing your site or niche.

there is some great PTC site that you can call for this ,and target your traffic to accept US traffic only,so far adwords is the best to get targetted traffic and another alternative is linkconector ( that available "paid by paypal) and if you want to get cheap traffic from a PTC site .neobux is my best recommendations for this.

Post articles on topics that people in the UK can relate to.

In my forum, a good portion of my members are from all of the English speaking nations - USA, UK, Canada, Australia, new zealand and several other countries in Europe.

If you post the right content, they will visit.

Well, if you want to get traffic from specified country, PPC advertising such as adwords is good but you need to pay for it.
Social Media is another source to get traffic from variance country, try on forum posting and article submission will can generate traffic to you from different country

    I live in england.
    I use UK domain names.
70% or more each month is from the US on all of my websites.

US just has more people = more internet users.
