Getting Top Posisition

    Im ranking in second for a certain keyword at google, now i wanna try and optimize for the top spot, i have done everything i know about SEO in order reach second place. Now how would i go about finding what i would need to do in order to grab the top position?

    Does it matter that the top posisition holder has a PageRank of zero? Should i keep on submitting to more directories to try and raise my page rank? Would this help in getting me to the top?

    Thanks

    Nice work,

    There is no relationship between PR and SERP's(Search engine result pages). To get top position you analyze your competitors in the first place. Analyse the quality, content, backlink of the site, and the quality of the sites linking to competitor and the age of the site and try to compare your site with the site in top position and find + and - in your sites and try to improve it. This is not one time work and we can settle, It is a continuous battle.

    Cheers,
    Ramesh.

    i agree with ramgay...SEO is a continuous process...improve your contents and link popularity...analyze your competitors...don't stop optimizing your site for your visitors...As i've said SEO is continuous as if you stop there's a possibility that you'll loose your SERPs...

    Pagerank is nothing when it comes to SERPs, but you should keep on submitting to directories to build backlinks and lure more traffic

    Get more links with the right anchor and check your keyword density compared to your competitor

    see what websites are linking to your competitor, get links from them, and just generally keep building links..

    @ramgay
    @candid cris

    funny that you mention that SEO is a continuous process,
    take a look at this article http://www.dmnews.com/cms/dm-news/search-marketing/38695.html

    Guy thinks SEO is a one time deal "fix it and forget it"

    I tried to put a comment (more than 24hours ago) that says otherwise but never allowed the comment to be posted

    What do you guys think

    Yes, you should keep on your off site optimization methods like directory submissions. Relative links will indeed help you to climb to number one on G.

    So keep your efforts on.

    Meads,

    I recommend you carry out a thorough analysis of your competitors site. On page and off page. What stands out? If your competitor is an older site with an older link base, it may be a case of waiting.

    Keep building internal and external links to your site - links to pages on that same subject. Don't understand linkbuilding as just about directories. Think wikipedia, hobby sites, forums etc.
    I absolutely agree SEO is continuous - the web keeps evolving, competitors wake up to the need for SEO etc. New sites come up...
