Hi Guys, Quick question. I've setup my php proxy and glype on my webhost but I was just wondering how can I get the ip address and the port no. of the proxy so that i can put those details on the web browser. This is so that I dont have to use the web based version where there is always a frame on the top. Can anyone kindly advise? Thanks.
Are you wondering how to get the person visiting your proxys ip address or your ip address from your web host?
That is not possible. A web proxy such as Glype or PHProxy does not have this capability. In order to use a proxy in your web browser you need to use a SOCKS or HTTP proxy.
IwhiC: i mean the ip address of the web based proxy Jliu: is it possible to install HTTP proxy on my shared hosting account? Is Squid any good? Anyone have any ideas?
To get the IP address of your web based proxy you can just ping your domain name. In Windows, Start > Run > cmd > ping yourdomain.com No, Squid requires root access. You will need either a VPS or a dedicated server. Squid is solid, time tested software (at least on *nix. No idea how well it works on Windows). You can't go wrong with it.
Does your host know you are putting a proxy on their server? I had my sites blocked when they found out they were proxies as they sent the server into melt down. I got back on line with a dedicated proxy server instead. Paul
1. So to have my own private proxy IP that I can put on the web browser, i have to get a VPS/Dedicated and install a HTTP Script like SQUID? 2. So the IP address that appears to the outside world is the IP of the VPS? Is there a possiblity to create different IPs on that VPS? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, in order to use the proxy the way you wish to, you will need some sort of software like Squid. Yes, you will need to either configure Squid to be an anonymous or highly anonymous (elite) proxy in order to have the IP of your VPS/Dedicated shown. Otherwise, it will act as a transparent proxy and your IP address will be shown instead. You can add IP addresses to your VPS/Dedicated by purchasing more from your provider.
