Hello, I've just started my first online business and am at a loss as to how to get links to my site. Should I use link exchanges? I would prefer to build a few quality links than a bunch of pseudo-random ones. I know there are experts here. What techniques have you found effective? thanks g
If you've just started your business then how about a press release? Let people know you are out there - introduce your business and services, and include some links to both your home page and deep links to sub pages. A great way to get started with legitimate, on topic, in content links.
link building techniques aren't secrets: 1) press release, 2) article submissions 3) directory submissions 4) link exchange 5) signature links 6) direct request 7) ................. the different is in quality and effeciency.

You might want to try prweb.com I also recommend writing some articles that will be useful to your niche community. Send them to authority sites within your niche and submit them to ezinearticles.com. Useful articles can help your website get some credibility.
directory submissions can help u a great deal.. i started my site 3 days ago and my link count was 0 now i have 112 links yahoo 27 msn 4 AltaVista 40 alltheweb 41 in just 3 days
Desert_Rose, I think you cannot sum all these links up. You see - suppose that all these SEs show you the same links. So I'm afraid you have only 41 link - not 112
Often by linking to and communicating with people in your same area of expertise or niche of selling. Any links back to you will be thematically related and if they have any real PR you'll get a sliver of it. Unless you are gifted at black hat techniques being social is a great way to get known and linked to. Richard
