I was hoping you guys might be able to steer me in the right direction. I want to startup a blog - nothing big, not looking to cash out, etc. - just something where I can post up some musings along with a TON of pics. I was thinking Tumblr, but there isn't much in the way of interaction with the comments, and I thought that might be better for what I want to achieve. Everyone I spoke with so far recommended Wordpress. Trouble is, there are a bajillion resources out there. Anyone have some links to good getting started guides, building guides, etc.? Nice themes and layouts would be helpful as well. Thanks.
Hello, I would think WP would be your way to go too. If you are looking for a nice theme, I always use themeforest. http://themeforest.net/category/wordpress On the right side you can select the type of WP theme you are looking to use. WP is simple because you can upload any size images and pre-select the media sizes in WP. Feel free to PM me with any additional questions.
WpBeginner (http://www.wpbeginner.com/) is a good place to get tutorials and videos for WordPress beginners. Youtube is another good source for video tutorials. For getting premium WordPress themes ThemeForest.net is my favorite place. You can also start your blog with a simple free theme. Check WordPress theme directory for finding free themes - http://wordpress.org/themes/
here is a list of free responsive wordpress themes that you can easily use for your blog.. i hope this helps you and goodluck http://wdstandards.com/2013/a-collection-of-free-wordpress-responsive-design-layout-themes/
have you thought about getting your own domain and own host? with any host, its cheap to get your own blog going, as well, to install wordpress is just 1 click. It will give you greater freedom and flexibility.
Already have my own host. Just need to pick out a domain name and register. There's a WordPress option under my cPanel config. You mean everything I need is in there?
I can recommend you Artisteer http://www.bktemplates.com/ - this tool is excellent for beginners and people who don't know html or css. On the page you can download template maker and build yourself site or use ready templates of WordPress, Joomla, Blogger and other CMS.
my apologies, i misunderstood what you were saying. once you have wordpress installed, you can install themes from within wordpress. You can search based on things such as colours, but, yea, with so many themes to choose from, trying to choose the right one, is ridiculous (to say the least). I find that alot of the best themes, seem to get reviewed, such as, try googling "best wp themes 2013", first link is a great site showcasing 75 really good wordpress themes. (http://www.wprazzi.com/2013/free-wordpress-themes/) For me though, I usually look up things as I get stuck. I found youtube to be a fantastic resource as well, put this into youtube "wordpress tutorial for beginners". I just find that sometimes a guide works, but if your not familiar with where buttons are etc, then a video tutorial is possibly more helpful.
