    Hi there,

Just practising around a bit with Photoshop and learning plenty still.

I've become a little stuck though.

I have an image with some background on it and I can't seem to get rid of the whole background and just keeping the image of the scarf, hat and face.

This is my image. I want to get rid of the white, and cloudy red areas just leaving the main part, probably as a transparent image so it's just that by itself.

How does one go about doing it properly?

    Thanks in advance.

In recent version of Photoshop, they tend to avoid giving the extract filter. For those not acquainted or comfortable with the the Pen tool, that saves you quite some minutes.

So it is either Pen Tool or Extract Filter. I never quite understood the Remove Background Eraser, so I won't recommend it.

    Hello !
Firstly I want to let you know that it isn't a big job you are wanting. You can easily get your desired results with a little efficiency. You just need to be a bit active in Photoshop. So here are a couple of methods.
Firstly I would recommend the pen tool. Select the wanted part of the image and with the pen tool and cut it. Then in the edit menu select paste. That would move the cut part on another layer. Then just delete the previous layer. That would leave the wanted part on one layer. Second you could also crop the image. With crop you can outline the face, scarf and hat, leaving the red and white cloudy part which you dont want. And do the same thing .cut it and past it another layer and then delete the other layer leaving you with the wanted part.
Then you could also try the eraser. Thought i wont recommend it completely but you can try. Open a new document with transparent background and open the image in it. and then erase the en-wanted parts. Try these methods. you would surely get the desired results.
Even then if you don't get through, then check tutvid.com . In the tutuorials tab you would find photoshop tutorials. check those. may be those will help.
You can also PM me. I am a professional web/graphic designer and very skilled at photoshop. You can contact me through PM. I would be happy to do this for you.

    Best of luck.

    Peace.

Thanks for your detailed reply RTD.

I realise it's not a big job, hence why I wanted to try myself, but I just didn't know how to.

    I'll give it a try.

Thanks for your PM SWD - appreciated.
