Getting Pages Indexed in Bing?

Discussion in 'Bing' started by joewins, May 25, 2010.

After several months, only the home page of one of my sites is indexed in Bing according to the webmaster center page. It's crawled regularly and not blocked. Yahoo and Google both indexed several hundred pages fairly quickly, is Bing really that slow?

Or is there some trick to getting Bing to index?

    Thanks, Joe

I'm not sure but is there a way to submit a sitemap to Bing like there is for Google? If so, that's the route you should go. You shouldn't have a hard time getting indexed in Bing though if you have enough backlinks from multiple sources. This way Bing can see the new pages, and index them.

I guess Microsoft still hasn't managed to master search engines then.

Did you know Bing are set to take over Yahoo! Search soon? Yahoo! Search will soon be powered by Bing.

How does that make us all feel?

Yes, you can submit a sitemap to your Bing webmaster tools. I'am not sure it helps all that much, but its better then nothing.

For my 3+ year old, page rank 5 site, using the site:sitename command

    Bing - 97 results
    Google - 98,100 results
    Yahoo - Pages 1,127,173

I submitted a sitemap to my webmaster tools for all three search engines over a year ago. Why Bing has so few pages indexed, I do not know.

There is something strange about Bing and that is when you access your logs and AwStats data, you would find the Bing crawler visiting your site tens of times more than Google but it does not index the pages visited, very strange!

Yes, I had already submitted my sitemap but that didn't seem to help. And I've also been crawled regularly for the same period of time but still only one page indexed.

Disappointing, but from your replies it sounds like this is normal for Bing.

Bing is slow, much slower than yahoo and google.
Just want, all the pages of my website get indexed by google within a week, and it take about a month for the yahoo, and Bing dont even index all of them after three months

Personally over 90 websites created and all were indexed by Bing the fastest and was in front page search for almost all for my keywords. Then, within a weeks time recently, all of them were gone from Bing index altogether except a handful. My main site went from every page indexed with Bing to 25 - 30% indexed. All very strange and no idea what happened.

Different search engines use different algorithms, Bing is a fairly new search engine system.

Just checked and finally there are more than one indexed page. However 10 out of hundreds is not much more than one....

Bing indexes some of my stuff. It is a pretty good search engine to use when trying to find stuff, but I wish there was more documentation on getting optimized for it.

They do. But the "Tools" themselves aren't that great. I used them a while ago but there was no where near as much diagnostic stuff as Google has.
