Hi guys What strategy do you follow when you find out that all of your messages are stored in the junk mail folders of your clients/customers? I know that the solutions are very scarce but still, I'm curious to know if there is a solution I didn't think about. I thought that maybe it would be a good idea to rent a cheap basic server only for emailing purpose but the drawback is that mails sent directly from my website (ie: forms, registration confirmations, email authentication, etc.) would still be considered as junk mail. I'm on a VPS and I'm happy with my current host, so, leaving my host because of this issue is not in my plans. So, what would be the proper action to take? Just for the record : I've never spammed anyone and never will. Thanks for the help!
I have that when mailing my customers who are on Yahoo. From what I can see, if your email header doesn't have a DomainKeys, it may get rejected unless you are whitelisted somehow. My mail servers do not support Domainkeys so basically what I did was to set up an account with Gmail and use that as the last resort to contact them. Gmail supports Domainkeys and their email go through fine.
Thanks Eddy ! I didn't know about DomainKeys although I did know about SPF filters. I guess I will have to implement both of them on my server ... which I hope won't be too difficult. But what about the administrators/systems who continue to use RBLs that aren't updated? Do you think that such systems continue to exists? I hate to think that my IP is flagged as "spammer" on several systems. My emails are seen as junk on Yahoo, Hotmail and even on systems that use anti-spam software ( ie: ThunderBird, some ISPs, etc. ) Thanks again for the great help anyway
BTW, there is something I don't understand about DomainKeys : what could prevent a spammer from stealing a DomainKey signature from a legitimate email he received from a certain company and then, forge emails, making them apear as if they were sent by this company??
Well, I am not sure. Domainkeys does seems quite difficult to implement and I am not sure how effective it is. It appears that Yahoo Mail is probably the few mail servers which actually implement them. In the end, I just route my mails through Gmail. Seems to work.
I've just read this, and I agree totally : Taken from http://linuxreviews.org/news/2004/10/18_1_domainkeys/
