Getting my Brand Recognised as a Search Term

    Hey Guys,

Comming across a problem recently that I have not experienced before. I am SEO'ing a site and we get quite a lot of traffic from our brand name due to some offline advertising and word of mouth from our loyal members.
Whenever I have SEO'ed a site before the brand has become a search term (i.e. no "did you mean.....") on it's own accord after a few months however it just doesn't seem to be happening for me this time.

Anyone any idea why or how to encourage Google (and the other SE) to regard your brand as a search term?

I agree with the post above. Howover don't know how long ago you started, but maybe Google also needs to do its "shuffle" for everything to update and changes to take full effect?

Google doesn't care if it's a brand or not. It's still keywords to them. So if you have a brand called "gotcha", and you have some content or backlinks related to gotcha, they will recognize your site. If it is cached, that is. I think that your problem is the site not being cached.

@Seojig: I agree but these steps have already been taken, we have been around on the new url about 3 months

@SJappie: I suspect you are correct

This may be pretty obvious but Im sure it also has to do with how closely related other search terms are to it. For example, the brand of one of my sites is an acronym (4 letters) and there's no way we would get "did you mean" treatment because all other variations and "misspellings" are completely valid.

Is this a possible issue for your scenario?

Also, are you saying that the brand has been around for only 3 months? Regardless of your traffic I would definitely agree with SJappie that it would take Google more time to validate your site/brand.

Please keep us (or at least me :)) posted because I would be interested to see the outcome.

    Hey sirrus,

Our brand has been around much longer, we just moved URLs but I was not on board with the project before then.
I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the misspellings, a word in our brand could easily be a misspelling of a common word (although this is not what Google tries to correct it too :?)
It's possible they are just discounting it because of it being so close, just not sure.
