Getting Miffed...

I am not really 'new' to online marketing, per se. My family's been in the business for almost 5 years, and I've observed my dad make major success with it.

Being 20 years old and venturing out on my own, I don't want to strictly work for 'the man' for my entire life. I love the thoughts of working from home.

All of this to preface: what do you all suggest in terms of learning?

    Clarify:

As I've gotten into this whole thing, I've learned method after method of making money - but I am getting distracted, not seeing my projects through because I move on. The key is "focus" but that is coming hard to me. Are there any suggestions you guys have for that?

Or is it just biting the bullet, sucking it up and quick getting distracted?

Any suggestions would be nice, because I am getting miffed at my lack of focus, and it shows in my income (or lack there of).

    Bryan

Why don't you create a project, make it break-even, then assign the 'day-to-day' running to someone.

You can then concentrate on your next "idea".

Some people never give up on a their projects, just let them sit for a bit then go back and look at them again to improve them.

    I have tried doing that.

Some people freelance their skills to other marketers while they are learning, this helps you bring some money in while you are learning how to do it all.

    I do that too.

The best tip I have is to keep a going log of all the project ideas you have as you are working on one project, if you use firefox, you can get the scrapbook extension so that you can take quick notes while working online.

-Mary I have an newbie dictionary selling for $6 right now too. Pm me for the link.

I know exactly how you feel... I usually tend to not be able to concentrate on my projects because I have way too many running at once. Is this your problem too? If yes, I would try to work on one project at a time.

What I would do is chose your project topic wisely, make sure it's something you really have interest in.. so you don't get bored of it. Also, set goals for what you want to achieve so you're somewhat pushed to get them completed.

    Good luck :)

I've suffered from information overload more than one. Right now I'm not trying to learn any new techniques or try any of my other ideas until I focus more on what I already have going on. If I get an idea, I just write it down in an idea journal and I set up a couple of hours a week to think about and develop new projects.

whenever i decide to start a new project, i generally start several sites, and begin going through the normal conceptual process of building a site and even put up some content, then i see which of hte sites is the best conceptually and long term wise, which is the most novel, which will i want to keep. then i focus on that one.

I don't understand. If you say that your dad has had major success with online marketing then why aren't you asking him to teach you everything he knows? Won't he be a mentor to you?

The best way to succeed at internet marketing is to replicate what a successful marketer is doing, with your own personality on it. Get your dad to teach you what he has done to b successful and replicate it in your own way.
