Does anyone out there have a sound strategy for getting links approved in Wikipedia? Has anyone connected with a moderator and offered to compensate for placement? Best practices around this strategy?
Wikipedia can not help you build backlink, because link in this site is rel=nofollow But, Wikipedia can help you have alot of traffic (if you add link in one hot page with little of backlink)
Very difficult, just try to add a lot of good content to an article and somehow have it reference your site.
Wikipedia as many of the other giants in traffic that are out there, is NO FOLLOW, so no backlinks are coming from that place.
No specific technique...Just put your link in recommendations list at relevant pages. It worked for me in past.
I was wondering why no one asked question regarding getting links from Wikipedia, glad you asked the question. The recent Google panda update filters such links from Wikipedia for example think if someone edit a page about Apple company and post their link along with Apple's link. It's more or less like Black Hat SEO. There are thousands who edit the same page again and again, what if everyone post a link, it's like spamming. Your website will get penalized by doing so. However, if you are working in a big reputed company with a big brand name with thousands of followers then definitely you should add a page about your company to Wikipedia, after lot of verification your page will be added and they have a separate section called External Links in the same page where the company links can be added. Also you can tell your employees and followers to rate that page in Wikipedia. You can get daily unique visitors, traffic if someone visits those external links but you won't get any backlink or link popularity because of no follow tag.
really perfect...but will you also tell me that Wikipedia provides the free editing to insert any good or correct information in any relevated page so if our information is good and correct then what is the wrong in that? please tell me ...i respect your answer
well they links are no-follow links so of no use... and u can only get little traffic nothing else...
It seems that for getting backlinks form wikipedia you have to be either a recognized brand or should be a known personality else it is not that easy to get backlinks from wikipedia.
hello , check these http://www.davidnaylor.co.uk/how-to-get-links-wikipedia.html . hope this will solve your query's.
Hi Nishant, I'm having hard time to figure out your question. No offense. But i assume from your question that you want to edit an article with reliable source. Yeah, you can edit with true and reliable source if it's not ever published in Wikipedia, but do check if it's already written, if so, they just delete your work. To your notice there are thousands of human reviewers for Wikipedia who are there just to find a fault, or low quality content, article. And editing in Wikipedia is no easy task, there is lot of guidelines one has to abide into. I would suggest you to take a peek into Wikipedia New Contributors help page before you even think of writing in Wikipedia. I'd also like to tell you that many are doing this mistake in link building ----> Why would anyone want to rank an optimized link above an organization. (i.e. Why should an optimized Apple link anchor text should rank above the original Apple webpage). Google Panda Update takes care of that too. So, no matter how much ever you optimize for a word you are not going to rank that above an original webpage and Wikipedia.
Gauthamvit2003 -- Thank you for the detailed response. I was most interested in using Wikipedia not for the link building value but for generating referral traffic. For instance I'd like to add a link (pointing to a high quality / relevant resource) within the resources / references section of a relevant Wikipedia page. The trouble is, every time I do so, my link gets removed and marked as SPAM -- even if it is a valuable resource for the readers. I'm trying to figure out how to avoid this from happening.
Its really difficult to add links on Wikipedia. You should put good content in your site, contents should be fresh and unique. The links from Wikipedia is best I think.
you can create or edit any article from wikipedia and sumit them for review, what you just need is create a wikipedia account. You shall read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Why_create_an_account? for more details
