Getting Into The Google Top 10

OK I have had a forum (www.rsboards.com) that I have been running for the past two years and it has always ranked reasonably well for the serach term "Runescape" and a year or so back it would occasionally slip into the 10 when Google had its PR updates and what not, but generally it has ranked 11-20. I was just wondering what I'd have to do to get Google to perminently place my site in the top 10 for the term Runescape.

I'd say that my Title and Meta tags are fairly optimised. The keyword density for the term Runescape is pretty high is probably too high if anything. It has a Google PR of 4 (has had this rank for 18 months now). The site has 241 backlinks (I don't know if this high or not).

So is there anything obvious that I can do to push it into the top 10 within a month or two?

Title, meta tags, keyword density, PR all mean nothing.

Build a couple of hundred relevant links with Runescape as the anchor text.

241 backlinks is nothing, honestly you need hundreds more to crack google for a compet. phrase.

Is it enough to have the achor text as "Runescape Boards" or does it need to be just "Runescape"?

It would be a lot easier to get people to link by my site name than by a term that I want to rank for.

Alternatively would it be better to find a PR6 or 7 site and buy a link with the Anchor term "Runescape"?

Also would placing a link on my own forums down at the bottom that had the anchor text "Runescape" and linked back to my index page help? I have like 10,000 pages indexed by Google - but I don't know if that would count as a link would it?

Vary the anchor text between "runescape" and "runescape boards".

    What about these:

For a quick fix buy a couple of hundred links on related sites (don't worry too much about PR).

The link on your site won't have much effect.

I don't know if it is possible to buy a couple of hundred links in my industry. I was thinking I could probably opt to have my site submitted to like 300 odd directories with the Anchor Text "Runescape Boards" would this help much?

Also can I so say I need to specficially use the Anchor text Runescape, is it OK to do something like this:

    Runescape Boards

You will notice that that is two links, which the first link "Runescape" being directly to the site, and the second "Boards" being to the /index.php of the site. Would google see that as too seperate links and more importantly see the first link as being related to the word "Runescape"

We mean that the link would look like this:

    Runescape

See how it's a link to my site and the text used for the link is "Runescape" well this is the anchor text.

Your homepage should only be visible at one url. If its visible at domain.com as well as www.domain.com and domain.com/index.php then it will harm your rankings.

301 redirect them all to www.domain.com

Submitting to 300 directories might help, dont expect much though. Contact somebody selling a few hundred links in the link sales forum for best results.

Well when you use a keyword, Google and most other search engines see this keyword as related to your site. So if you have a site about say Nokia Ringtones, it is better to link it with the anchor text "Nokia Ringtones" than just "www.nokiaringtonessiteyadayada.com" because no one will ever type "nokiaringtonessiteyadayada" into a search engine but loads of people will type "Nokia Ringtones" into a search engine.

I run a runescape site as well and I can tell you that the links that you have on the bottom of the forums probably aren't helping you at all. Google can tell those are too a totally unrelated genre and are probably docking you for it some.
