So i have this rather new dynamic website with lots of pages for products. Currently 1000 pages indexed. My competitor has a similar site but released got a lot more pages indexed within 1-month cause of just a few press releases? any thoughts on this would help

Hello, the more you do, the better, thas's a fact.

Your inner pages are gonna be indexed faster if you get backlinks to those pages directly, watever method you use.

So, if you send a couple of press releases with some of those pages links, you will get them indexed fastes, and that also will help the bots to index more pages, because they're gonna be accessing your site from different places, not jus alnly the main page.

    Regards.

When I had my products on Google Base nearly all of my 150,000 pages were indexed.
When I got into a battle with Mr. Google (competitor war) and they kicked my products off I dropped down to 405 indexed pages. Upon some in depth checking, only the products that had links from other sites are now indexed.
I am uploading 20,000 products to an online mall this week and we will see if they all get re-indexed since I will have external links pointing to them.
