Getting images indexed by Google?

I get a fair amount of traffic from Google (~300 uniques/day), but none of my images seem to be indexed. I use descriptive ALT tags and descriptive filenames (e.g. funny_german_billboard.jpg), but they never rank in the image searches, even if I type the exact ALT tag.

My site gets crawled by Google ~10X per day, and it's a PR 5 so I would have expected at least some images to index.

    Any thoughts? Thanks,
    Anita ;)

Have you submited your sitemap to google? When you do there is a nice little option there to check and submit about your site being included in crawls for images...hope that works..

Wow, I had no idea that existed, thanks! Any idea how long from the images are enabled that the images begin to be included?

    You don't need a sitemap...

Just use keywords like you are doing..

It just takes longer for the images to get indexed then it does that content.....

Be careful what you ask for though......You might want to put a frame buster on your images.....

A few good hot links from high traffic sites.....takes a nice chuck of bandwith

Yeah, for most websites there's not much to gain from having your images indexed. It's usually just a waste of bandwidth.
