    Hello,

I've been getting a number of hits from DMOZ the last few months under the "Links from an Internet Search Engine" section of cPanel stats yet i'm not listed in the directory.

Anyone know how/why this is happening?

Could be in review with an editor waiting for something to happen?

Maybe you are listed in another part of the directory?

Maybe you are loading the category from cache and you've really been in there for years (lol)?

What site (& category) if you are willing to share? Someone could likely help you look if they knew what they were looking for.

It's not hits coming from the editors dashboard, it's from actual DMOZ but cPanel doesn't say the exact URL. You know where it says:

Links from an Internet Search Engine

    Google - 14,735
    Yahoo - 1,227
    DMOZ - 9

I've got my browser cache configured to be stored in RAM for faster browsing, so it deletes each time i shut down the PC so it can't be that. The category is a rather dead locality with a whopping 16 other sites, so i'm definitely not in there and just not seeing my site.

It happens dude, for odd reasons, maybe someone reviewed it or just went over it etc... i get few hits too for my site www.dmoz-resources.com yet i have not even submitted it, just because some editor while still logged into their panel visits the site, i think its a fluke or something ?

See this is for last month :

    - DMOZ 20 20

    From awstats...

    For Oct.
    DMOZ 11 11

And so on.. its just fluke mate, nothing special, when you get reviewed and listed you will know if you go do search at dmoz for domain name .

I can suggest asking for status check at http://www.dmoz-resources.com/zone/ some nice editor might give you a status check on the same.

Hmm ok, it's probably not as unusual with your site because you are running a DMOZ resource and you would have alot of editors etc navigating from DMOZ to your domain. But for my site to get hits in the double digits for the last few months is strange.

My site doesn't come up when searching for the domain on DMOZ. I won't ask for a status check, because i won't get listed anyway. The locality i submitted to i don't think has been touched in about 5 years or more, it's still got abandoned Goecities pages with Red X images etc listed.

Well. Editors might be googling for things and reaching your site by coincidence also. lots of possibilites , do not worry about it though.

    Cheers

Well editors visiting the site is possible, the site ranks for about a dozen highly competitive terms and a few thousand smaller ones. But.. if they done a Google search, and clicked my site in the search results it would show up as a Google referal and not a DMOZ one.

The hits from DMOZ means they navigated directly from DMOZ to my site. Anyhow, looks like DMOZ editors like my site enough to visit regularly but not enough to list.

    Oh well.

Maybe on google they found it and bookmarked it, and if still loged in at dmoz i think it will appear as dmoz hit. You think of that possibility ?

I would say that's it, when i person can't even get listed on their empty locality for a small town they must be on some list. :)

sweetfunny, something like that usually happens before you get listed. i reckon you'll begin to appear in a while.

Hmm i don't know, it's been happening for a few months now.. So i would assume if i was going to be listed it would of occurred by now. Also my locality hasn't been touched in many years, i don't think anyone will get listed in that ever again.

If your site is listable, it will get listed eventually. If you stop and think about how many localities there are in the world, and divide them up by the active editors available (say around 8,000), there's no way that every locality will have a named resident editor. But, many of us still edit in all of them because we can edit in every category beneath the category we are named in.

There's a listed editor a few rungs back up the ladder, but this part of the directory is completely dead and has been for a very long time. I think the ones who can edit in this locality have never been here, don't know the online resources available here and are generally not interested in looking at that section.

That's possible, :). There are lots of different tasks to perform in the Directory and many of them are more interesting to do than reviewing sites. When you have 40,000 - 60,000 site suggestions waiting in one very large area, and more coming in daily, you realize that you could work 24/7 and not make a dent in them by yourself.

Most of us like to go after the really small localities, but, there are tens of thousands of them in Regional, so don't be holding your breath waiting, :).

On the other hand, an editor may come along tomorrow and list all of the suggestions in that locality, and the surrounding localities. It depends on how much time and energy they have, and how many of the suggestions have an ODP compliant title/description. I'm getting so I look for those, and leave the others sitting there.

With 40,000-60,000 sites available, why should I bother screwing around with keyword loaded or sales hype loaded site suggestions? It gets a little discouraging when submitters don't even try to help us out by following our Guidelines.

And I'm not talking about the sites, themselves, but the submission form you fill out.

Yeah i can imagine looking at the pending list you would have a dozen, "We are the No1 Site on the NET!!!" and so on.

That's why i looked at the titles and descriptions of the sites already listed in the particular category, and scripted mine very similar but taylored to my site.

So by it not getting in i know it wasn't because of the suggestion, the site being not listable or not online. Just leaves nobody has looked at it. Really i couldn't give two hoots if it gets in, my locality is a very lame representation of the area and not a real good resource anyway.

I'm mainly curious why my stats are showing hits from DMOZ.
