Getting Google to re-index a site

    Google originally indexed my domain when it was under construction. Since then I have uploaded the full content, but Google still has the old "under construction" index. Is there a way to get Google to re-index it?

    Actually, even if you don't do anything, your new site will be indexed in Google after the next visit of googlebot.

    Try to put your link over high PR sites so that Google crawls faster. I am sure next time it crawls your site, you will have the right content indexed in SE.

    What is the interval for when the bot will re-visit? It's been a full week with no re-indexing.

    The site is linked to on several high PR sites. It's also listed in a bunch of social networking sites. I also submitted a sitemap to Google in the webmaster tools.

    Do you mean the "site reconsideration" option? I did try that, but I think that's for when your site as been banned for some violation. I am not aware of the vite violating any Google rules.

    Create and upload a new sitemap to your site. Go to Google's Webmaster's Tools and go Dashboard -> Site configuration -> Sitemaps and resubmit from there.

    That is of course if you;ve had a sitemap previously. Else just create a sitemap and submit it.

    I seriously doubt there's any real way of telling Google to redo a site. That would mean getting them to admit that something they've done isn't correct and they rarely do that.

    Update:

    So, yes, I have done all the things suggested here by previous posters (having a sitemap, links to the webpage on high profile sites, resubmitting the site though Google Webmaster, listing in social network sites, etc).

    No dice. It shows up on Google as links on all of those sites, but is itself listed with the old "underconstruction" listing on Google.

    I looked today on Google Webmaster Tools and see that the site was "Updated Aug 29, 2009" (yesterday), yet Google still lists the site as "under construction" even though it is not, and has not been for quite a while, indicating that the Googlebot has not in fact updated anything. The cache on Google for out of date listing is from Aug 17, 2009 12:49:52 GMT.

    The site itself (newstarttherapy.com) is full operational. Can anyone offer any insight into what is going on here?

    Bookmark the heck out of your homepage. A tool like Bookmarking Demon that can throw up dozens of bookmarks on over 100 separate sites will fix that problem up quick.

    Every time googlebot stumbles across the bookmark link to your site as it crunches through these various bookmark sites will increase the likelyhood that it will visit your page and update it's structure in their database.

    Here's the thing: I don't think the problem is that Googlebot is not visiting the page. According to Google Webmaster Tools, the bot did visit. But it apparently did not update the listing on Google which still has the cache from a week ago. So the issue isn't really how to get Google to to notice the site, but why it is not indexing it after it has visited.

    It takes time man. One thing you should learn from this is not have search engines crawl your website when its under construction, you get penelized for that or something like that.

    When i first made my website, it took days and sometimes weeks for the title to change in the search engine, "google", after i got some rank, it changes the first day i change it.

    Other thing, in google webmaster tools, you have an option to set the crawl rate, try that, if your site is too new, that option might not be available to you yet.

    Give it a few more days.

    Whats the website url? Let us look into it. One other thing, different locations will show different things. On one computer my website might be one name, but another it will show something else. It also might be something with your cookies or who knows what...

    good luck

    try adding this code in your index file under the meta tags. After u do that, resubmit the sitemap and let us know how it goes.

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Cache-Control" CONTENT="no-cache">

    Wouldn't that affect a browser, as opposed to a spider? I think the one that affects Google's cache is

    <meta name="googlebot" content="noarchive">

    google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=156412#uncache
