Okay, what factors help get your subpages ranked high. I am trying to get my subpages to rank high for their specific terms. Here are a few questions:

    1) Does the amount of inbound links to the main page affect the ranking of your subpages in the SE results?
    2) Is inbound links to the subpages using the keywords the only way to get those subpages ranked high for their search term?

    3) Any other insight or techniques to get the subpages ranking high for their search term??

    thanks in advance.

    1. You should try to point your internal links mainly to the subpages that you are trying to get good rankings for. This will "channel" the available PR to those pages to help them rank higher.

    2. You can give those same subpages an additional boost if you can get external links from other sites pointing directly to them. (These are called deep links).

Yes, outside links to your home page can help, but only if you use method 1 to transfer (channel) the homepage PR to the subpages.

    Hello...

    Deep links
has managed to help my directories inner pages and what i recommend
is that you find a few quality directories that offer deep links so that those inner pages
    are found.

Just take into consideration that no directory owner wants you to keyword stuff your
inner pages so keep it simple and to the point and your inner pages
should and will gain better results...

    thx

i think there are two criteria for the subpages.

    * inbound links for these subpages
    * keyword density on these subpages

the same criteria that applies to getting your home page ranked is the same criteria for inner pages....

My website currently has 12 inner pages appearing on Google’s front page (two of them #1). Some of these are substantially competitive keywords. One inner page ranks #6 for keywords drawing 7,733 searches per day. Another inner page ranks #6 for keywords drawing 488 searches daily.

The collective wisdom of the other posters in this thread pretty much summarizes how that has been accomplished:

    • I have selectively linked to these inner pages from my home page, thereby directing traffic and PR to those inner pages.

    • I have secured deep links to these inner pages from directories.

    • I have optimized each of those inner pages for the targeted keywords.

    • Other deep links to the pages have occurred “naturally” as surfers have read them and liked the content enough to link to them from their websites.

These are all easily accomplished methods. Best wishes to you in your SEO work!

Not having any deeplinks could signal google that a site has no natural backlinks.

thanks guys. exactly what i was thinking. the reason i ask is i have seen one website where a page is ranked in the first page on SE's for several different competitive keywords, and i don't see the keywords on the main page. maybe it's just his inbound links.

If the keywords for which he gets on first page on SERPs are not in his website...in that case you can beat him pretty easy.
