getting crawled

    I've been reading articles and trying to find what is the best way to get my website crawled by Google and Yahoo the quickest without submitting and paying the fees. In Brad Fallon's Stomping course he says that submitting to the engines isn't necessary and that you couldjust contribute to a popular Blog and get spidered but in recent readings I think that information is out of date and Google has caught on to that. Is that correct? If so, what's the best for getting spidered?
