When opening a new website, many people suggest getting bloggers to blog about the new site, among other things like getting backlinks, PR's etc etc. My question is simply how do you get bloggers to write about your site? I personally don't know any - how do you convince them to write about your site? Thanks!
Plug relevant links into your blogs pointing to related entries on other blogs. It's also a good idea to use the bloggers full name if you are going to go into detail about their entry. Bloggers want to know who is linking to them so this will at very least catch their attention. If the comment is well thought out they are more likely to send a link your way. Obviously this isn't going to work every time but if you link to 5-10 other blogs chances are you will pick up 1-2 links. There really is no down side. Even if you aren't pulling many links in return you are still building content.
Thanks for the ideas, anyone else? By the way that "getting bloggers to blog about your site" is referred to in podcasts etc everywhere about traffic surely there must be other ways? BTW - anyone have any reviews on that payperpost system?
Send out a press release over free newswires. Many bloggers look there when they need news in their topic area to talk about. I've got press release tips and a template available at www.AllInfoAboutMarketing.com. Feel free to use them. It's an easy and quick way to get your site news in front of a large group of bloggers w/o having to track them down individually. Jenn
Permalinks, check out how to make proper permalinks and use them, if your blogging software doesn't make them automatically. Content : you've to follow trends and look for what's "hot" right now. Seriously... write about things you're interested about and make sure your blog is teh best source for your interest of area. For getting your blog on level that people start referring it on their blogs, it might take years, blogging is not really like one night adventure.
Thanks for all the tips everyone, I take it they refer equally to whether my new site I want promoted is a blog, or something else entirely like a video games site for example?
Press releases can be applied to any kind of site. Permalinks are for blogs. I don't recall the other suggestions, but for the most part they should be applicable to any kind of site. Jenn
Obviously, paying bloggers to write about your website is a great way to go. You may want to target people that have a blog that relates specifically to the type of website you've created. To use your example, if you've created a video game website then you'll want to target bloggers that blog on video games, the video game industry, etc.
