Real quick before I leave for a bit. Most important thing you can do for your website is getting backlinks. DO not worry about page rank, income, etc. First duty is to get those important backlinks! Once you have those, everything else will fall into place. Submit to directories (use a directory submitter found on this forum in the buy,sell,trade). Put your site in your forum signature files. Same with your emails...use a sig file on every email you send out. Write articles, or get someone to write articles for you, and get those not only onto your site, but submitted to article directories. Advertise on sites that complement yours. Especially those sites with a good page rank now.
Good post. I agree that backlinks (with the right anchor text) and good content are the most important items to focus on when building a site. The rest of the stuff is just a result (i.e. good page rank, traffic, income.) from these two activities.
