What is the best way to get backlinks? Are there any good sites? I am afraid to add my site to some of those URL submission places because they want me to link to them first. I did it once and never found my link on their site.
I do it the old fashioned way. Manually. I search for new links daily. Recently, I had a Search Engine Optimized link program installed on my site where others can post a link that I have to approve.
Find a forum dedicated to your industry and request links there. I'm visit realestatewebmasters.com and it works great for that industry. Sarah

find a competitor site .. go to google and check out who is links to them and ask them if they would like ot link to you ... or just ask on this forum with your site details and specify who you are willing to exchange links with. That should net you a few as well.
I don't know if it works with every site, but I installed a small directory with pages about my topic on my site and I'll ask the listed sites after the next PR change for backlinks. If I'ld only get half a dozen links because of that method, I'ld say it was successful.
But most people are...and it looks better if you can offer a PR3 or PR4 Link than a PR0 Link. By the way, I expect the next PageRank change to be within the next two weeks.
