Getting around the "tl;dr" dilemma.

    With the incredible amount of information available on the internet it's sometimes difficult to judge how much you should write in your post. Most newspaper columns tend to be around 500 words, most blog posts — 300. However sometimes you need to really elaborate on something and you get well into "tl;dr" territory.
    How do you guys ensure that your readers stay interested in what you're writing about? Do you try to engage them by asking questions within the post? Do you highlight the most important points to make it easier for readers to get your point when they skim through the text? Do you have a secret of your own?
