Getting advertisements on my site?

    Hi all,

Basically I'm talking about advertisement. The likes of your Website Sponsors on the right of this site: http://retireat21.com. The likes of those advertisements, where do you get them? How do you actually get advertisement on a site? Are they pay per click and if so is pay per click rewarding? Is there any advertising system you've come across where you just charge say $100 a month to advertise etc?

    Thanks!

I use OiO Publisher it looks just like the site you are referring to.

    http://www.oiopublisher.com/

If you join, you add your site to their directory and you add the code to your website. People can advertise directly from visiting your website or by finding you in OiO's directory.

Thanks for the reply - I will check that site out. Have you heard of any direct advertisement where people just pay per month etc?

Instead of adding a service and adding your site to a directory?

Well, I think there are some WordPress plugins where you can configure everything and you host it. Check out this blog post for more information.

And I have tested an open source alternative as well, but it was fairly hard to navigate and configure (and I have forgotten the name).

Thanks. I'm not sure you're grasping me though - I have my own site, I'm just looking at ways of getting advertisers to actually pay to go on to my site?

I think at retireat21.com they are selling ads directly, without any intermediaries. Just click on that little banner that says "Advertise on Retire at 21" and you'll see by yourself.

And usually you let advertisers find your ad spots by themselves (if your site is popular) or you can even advertise them! There is even a section in this forum that allows you to do exactly that, just read the forum rules first, to avoid problems ;)

I understand you, that's what I'm trying to do as well. I'm using OiO Publisher and it's ok. I was using Text Link Ads as well, but not anymore. The reason I'm using OiO Publisher is that I get to keep 100% of the money.

Right, thanks for that Ronaldv. I just wondered was there such advertising as people just paying per month etc.
Regarding the OiO Sly, not sure how exactly they make their money? Is it working for you?

There are many services which sell ads, like http://buysellads.com Where you can go to sell or buy ads.
Another thought, what if you used your own ads on your site and link to affiliate offers?

The problem with many second-rate ad networks is that you do not get much money, and, the ads look like crap.

That site you gave does not convert that well because it looks TOO much like a sales page.

It is overdone. ... Overselling rarely works.

Your best bet is to either go with a more professional ad network, which I can give you a list of them, or go directly to the advertisers themselves.

The latter is very easy to do.

You can click on advertisers' ads to go to their site, and then ask them if they want to advertise on your site also.

Check out Googles' Adwords. There are a slew of adevrtisers' ads you can click on.

Because there are so many of them, finding advertisers is incredibly easy.

    A very good idea.

OiO works ok, but I don't earn a lot from them, between $50 - $100 a month. Not sure how they earn money, maybe it's a one time fee for signing up?

I earn more money by using affiliate offers on my blogs.

If you want to get advertisers to your site, you will have to have "ORGANIC" traffic, proof of and awesome PageRank and so-on. That's usually the only way anyone would want to pay to advertise on another site.

You should concentrate on getting more traffic and building more backlinks to your site. If you do this correctly, the advertisers and cash will come flowing in.

    "Have to have"?

Many advertisers, myself included, could care less about that.

Here is the list of the most used ad networks more experienced advertisers and publishers use:

TextLinkAds, TrafficSwarm, CasaleMedia, Advertising, FastClick, BurstMedia, TribalFusion, Azoogle, GlobalInteractive, AdBrite, Adengage, RealMedia, Kontera, Avnads, ValueClick, RealTechNetwork, Reduxmedia, and, Dotomi, Clicksor, VibrantMedia, and Pulse360.

True that Rose... You don't "have to have" - My bad, but I'm not going to pay for any advertising on another person's website if they get one visit per day....

Thanks for sharing the Ad Networks with us though... Didn't know about a few of them..

Some people choose to go the Private way of advertising where they make their own advertising system within their website, in which I would suggest retireat21.com is doing. Other sites tend to go toward the Google Adsense approach rather than make their adveritisng network private because they get the assurance that they will always be making semi-consistant money, while private advertising can always fluctuate and is never really consistant but in the long run tends to pay off with better performance and revenue.
