Getting a Credit Card in India

Although this has been a topic of discuss for many days, I could not find any suitable answer in any of the threads. This one is regarding Paypal.
My question is: "Even if I do not have a proof of Income, Can I have a Credit card in my name in India?"

I heard that HDFC debit cards do work as credit cards. Is it true?
Is there any way to verify my Paypal?
(I have a debit card but its of no use in Paypal.)
Another thing: VCC's are completely unreliable. (as far as i know)
So, the option of having a Credit Card lies.

If anyone in your family (parents, brothers, sisters) having CC with them then you can easily apply for addon credit card.

Well, I think you can take a credit card from your bank even if you don't have any income proof. :)
THey told me to just maintain good balance in my account and they will give me a credit card on my name. :)

very true! i had account with hdfc and they told me i have a credit card offer since i am maintaining above 5k balance. i went there signed application and gave pan copy and i got the card after a week. no income proof/it returns asked.

After elections, banks have started issuing the credit cards to free credit crunch. so you better ask you bank.

I have over 10K balance, but ICICI says no credit card without income proof of over 20K per month. :(

As said above. You do not have an income proof so obviously you should be maintaining good account balance. So go and get it.

yes, mine is almost year old. When i opened the account, they told me the same thing - wait for 2 months.

you mean if i maintain above 20k they will issue credit card. Last time i asked they told me they need 3yr IT returns only then they will give me one.

HDFC - Yeah. Go for it, even if you have to make a fixed deposit of 20k INR to get a Credit Card, worth it for doing business online with PayPal. My PayPal account was also limited and i learned this the hard way "anyone serious enough to have an account with PayPal must verify himself."

ICICI - Nah. Their rude and careless attitude towards customers is a big turn off.

From where can I get the Expuse Number in that case. In HDFC for VCC's we cannot get the Expuse Number.

HDFC is miles ahead of ICICI Bank in terms of customer service and it is fairly easy to get a CC from them, if your account is in good standing with them.

ICICI is fairly quick in just one thing....charging the customer accounts with expenses under fictitious heads! :(
