Hello All, I need your expert advice. Right now my site http://www.apps0.com is hosted on Godaddy singapore shared server. I am using joomla 1.7 , and have changed HTaccess file to get SCO friendly URLs. Everything went well for a month but then i started getting 302 redir errors. I affected my site for almost 2-3 days. I went through lot of blogs/forums to get info on this error , every one suggested it is Due to load balancing tech. of GODADDY which is causing this problem. I wrote to them along with snapshots and other info but they replied back that they can not recreate it. Then after almost 25-28 days , this problem started again. This time Godaddy kind of agreed to me that it may be caused by them. So i decided to move on to another Host. Can someone tell me : 1) Does 302 redirect error happens in all Web HOST? 2) Which Host is best in shared linux hoting , please be honest with this reply , i am already suffering due to bad godaddy host Thanks http://www.apps0.com
GoDaddy has a terrible reputation as a webhost. I would not recommend using a domain registrar for hosting. That said, no, 302 errors should not be happening with any host. This appears to be a major issue with GoDaddy: http://support.google.com/webmaster...ery=Godaddy+unwanted+302+redirects+more:forum
You should be able to find plenty of hosts within that budget. Just stay away from the domain registrars and you'll be good to go.
Thanks for responses ! But I still have 2 Queries left to bother you : 1) If anyone can tell me where to get reasons for 302 errror? 2) Hostgator vs Inmotion vs ?? ..which one is best for Asia Pacific region ?[h=3][/h]
Here is an explanation of the 302 error: http://www.checkupdown.com/status/E302.html Why these were happening on GoDaddy, I'm not sure. It was/is a widespread issue with GoDaddy. Obviously they haven't fixed it. Haven't heard much about Inmotion, but it looks like their servers are in California, which should be better to Asia Pacific than HostGator, who uses Softlayer Texas only, from what I remember. If Hostgator has servers in Softlayer's San Jose, California facility and they will actually put you on that server, that might be an option as well. But the California server should definitely get you better performance to Asia. Hostgator India is fairly new as well, and have servers physically located in India. That should be closer to your physical location, if you want a server outside the US.
Thanks for the prompt reply... I talked to Hostgator sales executive and also checked their reputation on Google. They have many hidden clauses like: 1. CPU usage should not be more than 25% at any time. When I asked what do you mean by this, they said you cannot run huge scripts on your site. I told that I need to install Joomla on it and it may have many scripts in it (in form of plugins/modules/extensions etc) They could not explain the 25% CPU usage to me very well. May be it is because I was talking to a sales executive and not a technical person. 2. They support Joomla 1.5 with their quick install which is outdated. Latest version of Joomla is 1.7.3 so it means I had to manually install it. 3. Their support as per their TOS looks like it is paid after you utilize 100 minutes per month. 4. They have some Inode Usage clause as well. An inode is a data structure used to keep information about a file on your hosting account. The number of inodes indicates the number of files and folders you have. This includes everything on your account, emails, files, folders, anything you store on the server. There is currently an limit of 100k/250k inodes on our shared accounts. Though they say they provide unlimited storage/bandwidth but looking at their clauses in TOS (http://www.hostgator.in/tos/tos.php), I dont think its unlimited. Could you please suggest any other cheap web hosting with no hidden clauses like this and it supports Joomla 1.7 though I have in mind only hostgator or inmotion at this time... Thanks in advance.
Nobody provides unlimited storage and bandwidth. It doesn't exist...with any company. Those "hidden" clauses are normal in the shared hosting world, and you're going to find very similar regardless of what company you choose. In fact, I would be careful going with a company that DOESN'T have those clauses, because it means that a single user can monopolize the server's resources. They exist so that 1 or 2 people can't use the entire server's resources. Wouldn't be fair for everyone else on the server. The 25% and 100k inodes is very reasonable. How many people really have 100,000 files in their accounts?
