One problem I'm seeing with thumbshots.de is that any images on a site don't show up in the thumbshot.

last time I looked thumbshots.org only does dmoz listings and doesn't do inner pages (unless they too are dmoz linked)

Those guys kinda put me off by being banned from this forum within 24 hours of signing up. I never saw the posts that got them banned though

That's one way of putting it ;)

To make a full cature (full size, thumbs, cropping tool, capture delay, page info, spell check)

    Try mine...

    http://www.ya-right.com/

To make a dynamic thumbnail, use this...

thumbshots (make sure you encode the URL, if it has spaces or special characters)

    http://www.ya-right.com/capture.php?url=
    Code (markup):
    http://www.ya-right.com/capture.php?url=http://www.ranktips.com/

If you want more options, contact me for an account...

thumbnailer options! (for PHP, Perl, ASP developers)

    1. set the cache time, or reload a cached image (dynamicly)
    2. create any size thumbnail (dynamicly)
    3. set the image type (gif, jpg, png, tiff, bmp)
    4. set color range, true color (8bit,16bit,24bit,32bit,64bit), 256 palette, monochrome, gray scaling (dynamicly)
    5. auto delay capture to grab flash and Java
    6. instead of capturing the page (capture any page element <div>, <table>, ... any element)
    7. have a secondry link pointing to the full capture

    c,ya...

    dm!

Interesting, on the ya right about page it says the image capture script is:
Yet according to Sarah's post, you're just using HTML2JPG to produce the thumbshots. So much for your MIT SGML parser. I was even believing it, as hard as it would be.

Sarah, you could probably just get html 2 jpg and set it up on your server. That's probably going to be the easiest and most reliable solution. It looks like it's just a perl script that opens up your URL in Mozilla on the server and takes a screenshot. It wouldn't be real time, but it would be on-demand and the thumbshot would be available about a minute later. Anyways....

HTML2JPG can produce .jpg, .png, .gif and other file formats. It's kinda poorly named :)
