Unique content with one way links coming into your index page, and your subpages, have about 3% of your links using anchor text. Get a few links per week... takes forever but you'll skip the sandbox.

As for the fastest way to build a site into a success...

Build up a decent site, get as many link exchanges as possible to get rankings in msn and some in yahoo and then if you've built a great website, people will link to it naturally and you'll start to rank well in Google. Oh yeah, don't use anchor text, did I mention that? You're just telling Google what you're trying to rank for.

It's funny reading comments like that, because I could have very easily listened to that advice. I suppose the thing to keep in mind is what proof do they have.

I think you should take it 1 step further. Not put any visible text on the page, that way google REALLY doesn't know what you want to rank for :p

I have decent link exchanges, but my rankings on search engines aren't working too well. I rank 40-50th on average on Google and top 20 on MSN for various keywords. I'd like to do better with Google on certain game keywords such as "Kitten Cannon" for example.

So I figured, I should redo the entire site, recode it and redesign it .... make it look more fun and interactive. I've read quite a few posts lately and learned that I should make some changes.

The following is what I'm thinking of changing to improve my ranking:

    - lower tag attribute density (use CSS instead)
    - change php into generic html generated pages
    - increase keyword density
    - increase amount of anchored text

    Any suggestions, comments, concerns?

    Here are my thoughts:

    - lower tag attribute density (use CSS instead)
Making the page lighter is always good. will it help rankings? doubtful

    - change php into generic html generated pages
    Bah. Waste of time.

    - increase keyword density
Bah. Bigger waste of time. KWD is not a factor in ranking.

    - increase amount of anchored text
    Best idea.

Possibly THE most ridiculous piece of advice I have ever heard. Do exactly the opposite, spend most of your time building 1 way or reciprocal links with appropriate anchor text. Keyword density not that important, its all about links t the moment. If you are ranking 40-50 in G, chances are u are not in the sandbox. If you are chasing uncompetitive terms you may have avoided the sandbox altogether.

Don't spend your time redoing your site if you are trying to do better in Google. Out of the big three search engines, Google cares the least about on page content. The biggest ranking factor with google is the anchor text in your links. You needs lots of them and this is the only thing that is going to get you up in the rankings.

You can also do it with a HUGE number of links that don't have appropriate anchor text, but that would require many times the number of contextual links.

This will also work for MSN and Yahoo. Although these other two search engines put more emphasis on content, they will still bow down to lots of links.

You need links on OTHER, RELATED sites with keywords in the anchor text, linking back to YOUR site. This is a big factor in all 3 of the big SE's. The more 'authoritive' the site linking to you the better.

It really doesn't matter IMO if you have .php or .html pages, as long as they aren't dynamic. If you have <html> tags at the beginning and end of any extension page it is the same.

What do you mean with dynamic?

PHP is used to create dynamic pages..
For example my site dynamically displays top ranked games, top played games, hot games, search results, sorting .. etc.

    All that is dynamic..

How else would create those features without being dynamic?

Be wary of too much of this. You could be accused of keyword spamming, and unless you just want to rank high in MSN (Microsoft Spammy Network), I'd advise against doing it above 13% for any keyword.
