Qouted The thing that's going to make a difference in the mind of the web community is having a better product. The only way we will get people to believe that we aren't inherently corrupt is by becoming open. The only way we'll stop making dedicated enemies when we kick them out is to treat them with respect and compassion on their way out the door.
I do find it sad that even this won't make them consider being "open" and from the looks of it, it's done nothing but make then even more closed minded. I do believe that Shoe should likely offer up a bit more truth to the matter, but what of next time? Will AOL bother suing everyone? Wouldn't it be easier to just make a few code changes to let the world see who is right in similar instances? ODP I think needs to remove the O as there is nothing Open about it. The source is closed, there are multiple restrictions on their dumps, the editing is not viewable publicly, and their internal forums are filled with more hate to the outside world then the outside world ever thought of returning. They continuously shout for proof behind closed doors.
So they got feed up being constantly dragged through the mud and instead of standing up for themselves they want AOL to do it for them... I can't wait for metas to show up in court and explain to judge that if they reveal content if internal forums and notes they would be violating communications guidelines and they could be expelled so they can't show him ANY evidence which proves their case but he should simply believe them that they are telling the truth.
I felt that needed to be said again, lol. Though, I wonder how they will get around that part of the court case? It's one thing to have a court order to give over the information, its something else to volunteer such information ~ Which would be a clear violation of their own guidelines.
It called going in circle, they have so many skeletons in the closet and keep adding new ones that as time passes opening DMOZ is becoming less and less possible since only remaining editor are the ones who sole interests in DMOZ is keeping those skeletons safely locked up. Like with most regimes you have to wait for thing work themselves naturally - after most hardliners pass away things should start to change... in 50 years more or less.
They are just plain stupid. It is just to look through AOL legal department history and they can notice that they don't win any cases and usually lose big. It is also interesting that they try to pretend that they have a brain and talk about court case and discovery period. Don't these morons understand that during the same period, the other side can ask for the name and address of every editor in DMOZ?
