You all know there is a plugin for wordpress that displays your top commentros with a link to their blogs/websites. Well I've seen a few blogs with quality backlinks that are using this plugin and I think they got penalized by google. Their pagerank dropped from 4 to 0 at the last update. Is it possible that google takes them in consideration like TLA or TNX ? PS None of the blogs that I saw, were selling links
I'm unsure on this. Last update my site that I was really trying to increase PR for dropped from a 4 to a 1 and I couldnt think of why except for that I was a "top commentator" on a bunch of blogs getting a link on every single page of the blogs. I thought google may have penalized me for this so I stopped being a top commentator on all the blogs I was doing it for and this update my site went up to a PR4 again without any other work done since the last update really. Coincidence? Maybe...
well sorry for the delayed answer but I think its quite possible since commenters might input highly competitive keywords that raise a flag for google to pay attention I personally monitor my commenters name and erase ANY search engine targeted keyword in their NAME field I will only accept something that looks like a NAME.
NoWay ... as all the links for the comments are no-follow !! If they are not using no-follow links then they are supposed to get penalty from google. You can check my article: Nofollow Links. If you dn't have much knowledge about no-follow links.
That plugin has (usually) the links free from "nofollow" attribute So it is WAY possible that pagerank has dropped from a few bad (highly targetted and competitive search terms)
umm .. might be possible if it dont have no-follow can u tell me ny blog not using no-follow ?? because i don't think it will be a case... just have a look at my blog ... it's default ... and its no-follow
Chios, I highly doubt that Google will penalize your for those outgoing links. If you can remember correctly, everybod was effected by the PR update, not just those that advertised TLA links on their websites. And as you know by now, those website's PR has been fixed again (well not to it's original state, but at least not 0). There are a lot of comment plugins for wordpress. "Recent comments" "Top Commentators" ""Sezwho" etc... I have a blog that is using the top commentators plugin for a long time now and I'm dominating the serps for a crap load of keywords. And I'm talking about #1 positions. Best regards, Ryan
Maybe by default is "nofollow" I might have tweaked mine and that is why it does not use nofollow In my mind the original question was regarding the PR drop ONLY. I know sites that sold links in the past have been penalized with PR drop but also lost ranking in google My comment was more focus on this sentence --------------------------- since commenters might input highly competitive keywords that raise a flag for google to pay attention --------------------------- and thus google might lower your PR or even apply other penalties That is all I was trying to say, I can't say a definite yes it will penalize you nor I can't say a definite no it won't penalize you.
I would never allow people to openly game the links system on my sites like that. Look on shoemoneys sites, right now he's giving links to people called "bonus ringtones" and "paid surveys reviewed"
Vic, I understand this and that is why I don't allow people to enter ANYTHING other than their name if NAME FIELD does not look like a name I edit it.
