Do you own the server? If not, just move to another hosting company. Chances are you have lost your money and you should move on quickly as you are losing money if your sites are not live.

You don't need his permission to put your sites on another hosting account with another company.

If you own the server as you say
, then I guess you will have to find a way to get your property back. I am afraid I am not sure how you will do that - short of going down to the data center and getting it.

hmm - it sounds like the immediate problem is the domain - can you get it transferred out? You say he locked it - can you unlock it yourself in the management section and then transfer it to another registrar?

Then you can get the DNS changed as you need.

Uh...can someone perhaps help me understand what appears to be the issue
here? I read it like 3 times and I don't quite fully comprehend what's going on,
other than the OP's website being down for some reason.

He bought a hosting and domain package. His site managed to exceed the bandwidth allocation and the host took the "suspend" route rather than the "bill" route to resolve the issue.

When he tried to move to a new host he discovered why you manage your domains separately from your hosting - they've locked down his domain.

Talk to your real world lawyer and get some nasty letters sent - even if you may not have the funds (or case) to actually go to court they probably will do what you ask.

#1 Rule for newbie webmasters: choose a host who is local to you. If there are problems you can always sit in their reception until a resolution is found. Choose hosting on the other side of the world and your problems may not be resolved so easily.

I think a better rule is do not purchase a domain through your web host and research a web host before using them. Local company's charge an arm and a leg for a service that should not be priced that way. Some still live in the world of 1gb of bandwidth costs $500/month and manage to sell to people...

Yeah i agree. You should always book your domains from very reliable sources. I had got my hands dirty on smaller service providers, and while they cost less... its just not worth it. I use godaddy for hosting my domains... have good experience with them even when one of my clients tried to act real smart.

As for your current dilema, if you cannot immediately transfer your domains out, get a hosting done somewhere else and ask them to change your Nameservers. Later on get the domains transferred somewhere else. Hostgator is another company I use for my websites.

P.S - have no affiliation with Godaddy or Hostgator..
