    Ive read of people hardly promoting and getting pr on sites that are nearly dead, meanwhile a hard promoted website may barely get an increase or even lose.

    This is usually observed because people over optimize.

    Well if you can somehow easily get a pr 9 link then that will boost ur pr, I'm not sure by how much but it will give you a high pr without building a bunch of backslinks.

    Anybody with a a basic understanding can get a PR 1,2,3, or 4. It's not that important unless you are selling the site to someone who thinks PR is important.
    PR does not mean traffic. It only means PR. No traffic, No money.

    I agree that a high PR doesn't necessarily brings you the traffic that generates money but if your goal is to rank high in the SERPs for competitive keywords, both on page SEO and PR are important factors.

    Cheers!

    The PR shown in Google's Toolbar is based on a logrithmic mapping of the URLs 'real' PR.

    So if Toolbar PR is a base 10 logrithm of the 'real' PR the mapping might be as follows:

    Real PR------------>ToolbarPR
    1-10------------------->TBPR=0
    11-100---------------->TBPR=1
    101-1000------------->TBPR=2
    1001-10000---------->TBPR=3
    etc... to TBPR=10

    So as you can see the first few jumps in PR don't require much, however each jump is exponentially higher than the previous.

    If you're performing lots of link building activities and your PR is not moving even up to PR3 then you are using link building techniques and targeting types of sites that Google's algorithm is likely considering some type of spam... Your links are likely being devalued because of things like you are spamming dofollow forums, blogs, and directories... While these may work for a while, Google will likely eventually find these sites through spam reports and such, and devalue the links.

    I understand that for new sites this often seems the only alternative, but it's not a good long term strategy. If your site is disposible and you want to quickly jump to the top of the SERPs, then go for it. But be prepared to have to start all over with a new domain or constantly be looking for the next spam technique to keep your current site ranked should you use spam-type approaches to link building.

    If you get 'real' links from relevant sites who are linking to you naturally because you have good content and add value to their site visitors experience, these types of links typically stand the test of time and are very rarely the target of Google algorithm changes.

    PR is only one of aspects for search engin to judge it. I had saw many website that have high PR, but they do not have high convert rate. People click your website, but bound it in less than one second. Is this website have value?

    I personally like those website which have original valueable contents but have not very high PR.

    I learned from Google.com:

    PageRank Technology: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.

    Can you please enlighten me and explain why PR doesn't affect the SERPs.

    Thanks,

    Aristoteles
