    Saving and Maintaining a Budget

When asked about their biggest insecurities financial future was at the top almost everytime and it’s no surprise – as oil prices keep rising while multi-billion companies file bankruptcy no one really knows the financial future. We live in a time of economic unrest and it’s more important now than ever to have a budget and follow it well. This article highlights the advantages of having a savings plan and some simple yet highly effective tips you can implement to keep your personal finances in check. So if you’re interested in saving for retirement or college and still having enough to cover lifes emergencies read on and find out how.

    ORGANIZATION IS KEY

Ask any good accountant what the most important aspect of their job is and they’ll tell you that keeping track of money is vital. Organization is key when it comes to saving or using money. Unfortunealy most people don’t take the time to plan out their personal finances and they pay the price of instability for that. All though it may seem more fun to live in the moment when it comes to money you should have it down to a science! A recent study suggests that over 78% of Americans don’t have a planned out budget (day to day spenders). Many people have lots their jobs, houses and cars because they didn’t plan out their payments. Being unorganized with your money isn’t only bad for the economy it’s also bad for your health. Psychology has shown a correlation between stress levels and what’s on your mind. Your stress levels will rise when money is constantly on your mind and you’re wondering if you have enough to pay the bill. I hope you’re prepared to break those bad habits and move towards financial security.

    FIGURING OUT YOUR EXPENSES

The first step to creating a balanced budget is figuring out your ‘fixed’ costs. The term fixed implies variables that cannot be omitted or changed these include mortgages, bills, food, etc. These are amenities which must be paid for every month and make up the larger chunk of your personal finances. As a minimum try to save up an extra 100$ per person each month. This is not required but known as emergency savings and we never know when we might have to use that money. Maintaining a budget is a game of numbers and that means we should know exactly how much we have to spend before we even see the money. I want you to calculate your fixed costs and add your emergency savings to them then deduct from total amount and the remainder is what you can spend without the stress of breaking your budget.

WHAT CAN A GOOD BUDGET DO FOR YOU

A good budget will not only protect your health but it’ll also ensure you have enough money to cover whatever hurdles life throws at you. It’ll be your backbone it may even help you pay off your debts. Some small tricks that every smart investor knows are money management; don’t go out to a restaurant everyday buy bulk food and treat yourself to a home cooked meal. If you’re saving for retirement then put a small amount into a separate account every month or find a gouverment trust that will match each of your contributions. Paying your fixed expenses first, this means don’t spend until you’ve paid off all the basics! You wouldn’t have desert before the main course and you shouldn’t spend your money before you’ve paid off your fixed expenses.

A balanced budget doesn’t mean not spending money, it means spending it wisely. It’s a matter of forgetting some old habits and learning some new ones. You can be saving money and living comfortably, all you have to do is take the time to organize yourself financially. Follow these simple steps on ways to save and you’ll start seeing your money grow.
